Media oohs and aahs over new Spartan Stadium additions
Count MLive.com’s Dean Howe as one of people impressed by MSU’s $64 million addtionto Spartan Stadium. He’s pretty sure that even the late and great Duffy Daugherty would have been impressed with the cathedral that MSU built for him.
They have raised the roof, literally, on Spartan Stadium and it’s almost too much to behold.
If the late, great coach Duffy Daugherty, king of the quips, had walked into this edifice on Monday afternoon, he’d have looked up at the sky and remarked, “I knew they’d build a cathedral to me one day.”
They have, Duff, and it’s something you never, ever would have imagined, way back in the glory days of MSU football in the 1950s and 60s.
Just to prove college football is definitely big business these days, MSU has shelled out $64 million to construct a skyscraper stand of private suites, luxury club seats, offices, kitchens, meeting rooms, radio and television booths and a 193-seat spacious area for the print media alone.
What’s not clear is how the average MSU fan will benefit from the additions. Hopefully it will pay dividends when it comes to future recruiting and wins on the football field.
