Izzo isn’t necessarily looking forward to Hawaii game
Prior to next week’s Maui Invitational the Spartan basketball team will officially open the season in a game against Hawaii on the neighboring island of Oahu. The Honolulu Advertiser reports that what seemed to Tom Izzo like a good idea when it was scheduled isn’t sounding like a good idea now. One lesson that Izzo learned from the football team’s trip to Hawaii last year was to insist that Big Ten refs officiate the game.
“Stupidity is probably the best answer I can give you,” Izzo said. “What sounded good last March or February never sounds as good when you gotta go do it.”
Izzo says all this with a hearty chuckle, lest you think he will have to be dragged kicking and screaming on board his flight like the Spartans’ football coach, John L. Smith, last year.
