Trustees, Ron Mason: Smith’s job is safe
Despite the wishes of some fans, head coach John L. Smith’s job is secure according to the MSU Board of Trustees and MSU Athletic Director Ron Mason in today’s Lansing State Journal. Smith’s job security has been a hot topic of conversation on internet message boards and sports talk radio this week.
“There’s nothing going on,” said MSU athletic director Ron Mason, who said he would withhold comment on Smith’s performance until after the season.
“I feel fine about John L.,” said MSU Trustee Don Nugent, R-Frankfort. “He’s got to get a program built, and that takes time. You’ll never build a program if you keep changing directors every two or three years. If there’s constant talk of termination, it self-destructs. That’s the wrong way to go. We can’t build a program if we can’t stick with it and grow it.”
