MSU collapses down the stretch, beats Arizona in overtime
Despite blowing an 18-point lead in the second half, Michigan State held on to force overtime and beat #9 Arizona 74-71 in the extra session.
Shannon Brown hit a two-point jumper with 35 seconds left in OT to give MSU a two-point lead. On the ensuing possession, Arizona’s Marcus Williams was fouled with 8.5 seconds remaining but missed both free throws.
Leading 56-41 with 6:28 left in regulation, MSU watched Arizona go on a 19-2 run over the next five minutes to grab a 60-58 advantage. A pair of free throws from Paul Davis evened the game with 30.8 seconds to go and the Spartans survived a last-second shot by Hassan Adams to force overtime.
MSU led 37-23 at halftime and held a double-digit advantage until the Wildcats turned up the heat late in the second half.
Non-athlete Maurice Ager scored 22 points, with Paul Davis adding 18 and Shannon Brown getting 17.
