Walton becoming a valuable triple-threat

Fans know all about freshman guard Travis Walton’s defensive prowess but many don’t realize how vital a role he could play as this season unfolds. In this MLive.com story, MSU assistant coach Mark Montgomery stresses how important Walton’s development could be to the team due to his ability to play three positions on the court.

“His role is probably the most important on the team, if you ask me,” MSU assistant coach Mark Montgomery said Tuesday.

The response was based on Walton’s value as an insurance policy and an eventuality the No. 9-ranked Spartans (10-2) hope they never realize.

After a six-day holiday break, MSU resumes play against Tennessee Tech (8-2) tonight at 7 in the Breslin Center (ESPN-Plus) still worried about depth at the guard position.
