MSU ends 2005 with record-setting win
The Spartans’ non-conference schedule has taken them from Hawaii to New York and several points in between. MLive.com reports that all that travel has paid off and with a 78-54 win over Coppin State, Michigan State set a new school record with twelve non-conference victories.
“We kind of had to learn some things on the run in hotel rooms and walking through things in banquet rooms and have had a lot of odd situations,” said sophomore point guard Drew Neitzel, who had five assists and no turnovers against the Eagles. “But I think our team’s grown together through it all.
“Whether it’s been athletic teams, teams that slow the game down, good shooting teams, good penetrating teams, we played some great competition. I don’t think we couldn’t be any more prepared.”
The Spartans (12-2) played eight of their 14 games away from home and twice went to overtime. Michigan State found a way to dominate when they had every reason to be uninspired and play at the highest level even when hobbled by muscle cramps.
