Spartans hand Hawkeyes worst defeat in 11 years
MSU’s impressive 85-55 win over No. 23 Iowa on Saturday was the Hawkeyes’ worst loss ever to MSU and the worst loss Iowa has suffered in over a decade. The win improves Tom Izzo’s record to 5-3 this season against ranked opponents. Next up for MSU is a trip to Ann Arbor to face unranked Michigan.
All three of MSU’s top scorers were clicking on Saturday. Maurice Ager led all scorers with 25 points, Paul Davis added 19, and Shannon Brown scored 17. The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports that in the end, the Spartans were just too much to handle and the result was a downright beating.
“To get beat 30, I’m not saying Michigan State’s not a good team, because they are, but I thought we just kind of laid down and really made a lot of mistakes,” Adam Haluska said.
“It was blatantly a beating; that’s all it was,” Greg Brunner said. “They made their shots. They got to loose balls. They plain flat beat us in every aspect of that game.”
