Abram doubtful for MSU-UM game
Michigan’s Lester Abram will likely sit out Wednesday’s game against Michigan State due to a severe left ankle sprain. Abram missed both games against MSU last season. Jim Spadafore of the Detroit News reports that Abram missed practice on Monday.
“No update other than it’s going to be day-to-day and it’s been diagnosed at this point as a severe ankle sprain,” U-M coach Tommy Amaker said. “He’s not practicing today and it probably leaves us to believe that he’ll be a scratch for Wednesday.
Right after the injury, U-M coaches thought it was a high ankle sprain. On Monday, Amaker said it was a severe sprain.
“I wouldn’t exactly categorize it now after talking with our trainer and talking with Lester today,” Amaker said. “It might not be a high ankle sprain, which is longer to come back from. If there’s any positive, it’s that.”
Abram is arguably the Wolverines’ most consistent player. He’s averaging 12.1 points and leads them in three-point shooting (15-of-33, 45.5 percent). He’s shooting 58.5 percent overall from the field.
In the same story, UM’s Daniel Horton said he was sick and tired of hearing about Michigan State.
“Yeah, I mean to be honest,” Horton said. “If it’s not Michigan, I get tired of hearing about it (Michigan State). It’s nothing against Michigan State or anybody else but I just care about Michigan and us winning games and us competing for a Big Ten championship. I’m pretty sure those guys at State feel the same way. They don’t want to hear about anybody else but their team.”
