Lansing sports radio loses “The Ticket”

MSUThere are some big Lansing/East Lansing listening area changes in store for MSU sports radio fans. WQTX (92.1-FM) The Ticket, is becoming an oldies station. The Lansing State Journal is reporting that the station will be switching their format to become the “Good Time Oldies” station on Sunday evening at midnight. That means that a few Lansing sports personalities such as Jack Ebling will lose their radio spots and MSU fans will have less Spartans sports coverage next Fall. Dave “The Mad Dog” DeMarco will be retained by the radio group and will become their sports producer. It’s unknown how much napalm he’ll be spitting under the new format.

“I’m very much (disappointed) from a personal standpoint,” said Paul Cashin, the group’s operations manager. “We put together a team that you could compare to any major market. But I understand why it had to be done.”

This was a personnel-heavy operation that lost money, Johnson said. “You can’t keep pumping money into something. We’re experiencing a down market” for advertising.

By comparison, the oldies format won’t require local disc jockeys for now. It’s being syndicated by the national Jones Media group.
