Spring Football: Fresh faces in the Spartan secondary

MSUWhile most schools would be concerned with starting three new players in the secondary, that thought doesn’t seem to be worrying MSU’s program right now. That’s mostly because many of the starters listed on the spring roster are likely just there temporarily. It’s hoped that some of the experiments will pay off down the line and lead to increased competition and depth. The Lansing State Journal reports that players such as Demond Williams are upbeat about the possibility of an improved secondary.

“We know we didn’t play well enough last year, but we’ve got some new faces that are gonna make a difference,” said senior cornerback Demond Williams, the lone starter from 2005 who is likely to keep his job. “I thought we had pretty good safeties, but we were kind of weak at cornerback last year. I put that on my shoulders, and I really don’t think we’re gonna be a weakness this year.”
