Reports: Brown entering draft, Izzo to Knicks?

MSUMSU junior Shannon Brown has been quoted several times saying that he’d be back in green and white for his senior season. However Tom Izzo has also been quoted as saying that he’d do all that he could to help Brown find out where he stands with NBA teams. Draftexpress.com is reporting that Brown will take him up on that offer. The site is speculating that Brown will only leave college if he’s guaranteed to be drafted in the first round.

He could either hold a public workout for interested NBA teams at Michigan State or even the Orlando pre-draft camp to attempt to raise his stock. Brown, like at least a dozen other underclassmen who have already entered this draft, is currently considered a borderline first round pick.

While we’re mentioning rumors and speculation, I guess we should also throw out this report from the New York Daily News. The News speculates that if Larry Brown doesn’t return to the New York Knicks next season, Tom Izzo will be one of the coaches they will contact about the job.

But his first task may be finding a new coach. The Knicks do not want the uncertainty of Brown’s future lingering into July and August. Williams would be a candidate if Brown steps down. Bill Laimbeer is another possibility, and if Thomas goes the college route, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo and Florida’s Billy Donovan will both be contacted. Another possibility could be ex-Knick Mark Jackson, who knows how to navigate the New York media and has a relationship with Marbury.
