Brown to workout for 76′ers, Davis visits Warriors
Shannon Brown has been invited to work out for the Philidelphia 76′ers on Wednesday along with Cedric Simmons of North Carolina State, Shawne Williams of Memphis, and Marshall Strickland of Indiana. Other NBA teams Brown has had plans to work out for are the Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, and Boston Celtics. The Philidelphia Inquirer calls Brown a middle of the first round pick.
The Sixers will have the 13th pick in the first round of the June 28 draft. Two years ago, their last time in the lottery, the Sixers brought in more than a dozen prospects but selected one they worked out in secret, Andre Iguodala, with the ninth pick.
In most mock drafts, Simmons, a 6-foot-9, 233-pound power player, is slated for the middle of the first round. The 6-4 Brown is expected to be a late first-round pick. The jury is split on the 6-9, 225-pound Williams, who could go from the middle of the first round to the middle of the second.
Meanwhile, the San Francisco Chronicle mentions that Paul Davis will workout for the Golden State Warriors later this week.
Briefly: The Warriors will ratchet up their pre-draft workouts this week by bringing in candidates for their No. 1 pick, the ninth overall. Duke’s Shelden Williams is scheduled to headline today’s group of big men that includes Michigan State’s Paul Davis and Connecticut’s Hilton Armstrong.
Williams’ Blue Devils teammate, J.J. Redick, and Villanova’s Randy Foye are expected in Oakland on Friday, along with Stanford’s Dan Grunfeld, who is a possible second-round selection.
