A tough sales pitch for Duffy renovations
MSU has reportedly had trouble raising money for much needed renovations to the Duffy Daugherty Football Building. Michigan State officials consider it a must to keep up with other peers in the college football facilities arms race. Near or sub .500 records, and most “experts” predicting around the same for this upcoming season, can’t be helping matters for MSU. Over the weekend, Todd Schulz of the Lansing State Journal imagined what John L. Smith’s salespitch might be to potential donors.
I recently tagged along as MSU coach John L. Smith gave well-heeled donors, Gus and Gertrude Greenback, a tour. OK, not really. But after consecutive losing seasons, can you imagine how Smith’s sales pitch might sound? I can:
JLS: All right Greenbacks! Let’s kick it in the tail! Grab those horse’s doovers Mrs. G! Light that stogie Mr. G! Time to tour this clearly outdated facility. Put on those hard hats. This place is crumbling around us. Follow me!
MRS. G: (Whispering) Honey, why is he shouting?
