Stanton for Heisman?
Drew Stanton is easily one of the most loved Michigan State football players in years. Fans love the kid. He is a media darling, and he has the stats to back up the praise he recieves. What he lacks is wins over big opponents. It’s not for lack of trying though. Last year before the Michigan game for instance, Stanton ran over to the student section before the game and to get them pumped up.
If Stanton is going to be seriously considered for the awards many fans think he deserves, MSU is going to have to win as a team. Shannon Shelton of the Detroit Free Press writes about what it’ll take for Stanton to be seriously considered for the Heisman and other postseason awards.
Stanton hopes to halt MSU’s two-season streak of losing records, but he hesitates to say that doing so would cement his place in Spartans history.
“It all depends on how you break it down,” Stanton said. “There’s been a lot of great quarterbacks to come through here, especially in recent years, we’ve had a lot of production at that spot. I’m not going to sit here and say where I fall in that or be able to determine that … it’s hard to say.”
