Trannon flies like an Eagle in 52-20 Spartan win
When every young EMU fan goes to sleep at night, it’s Matt Trannon that lurks in the dark corners of their mind, and in their most frightening nightmares. Trannon set the MSU single-game record of 14 catches, and had a career high 151 yards in the 52-20 Michigan State win over Eastern Michigan.
The game was closer than most MSU fans would have liked after a couple of EMU trick plays that ended the first half and a quick 3rd quarter field goal to pull the Eagles within 24-20. Joe Rexrode of the Lansing State Journal reports that MSU found a higher gear the rest of the game and had no trouble pulling away.
The Spartans eventually “put a stop to the madness,” Trannon said, and the result was a collective step forward from a season-opening 27-17 win over Idaho. So what’s the sane evaluation of this team with a visit to 2-0 Pittsburgh next on the schedule?
“I think we’re ready,” said junior defensive end Ervin Baldwin, who had a sack, two tackles for losses and several up-close encounters with EMU’s quarterbacks in his second career start. “We’ll find out how good we are. We were just more focused, more determined to make plays in this game because we didn’t play well last week.”
