Coach D brings seven of nine assistants to MSU
New MSU head coach Mark Dantonio is bringing seven of his nine assistants from Cincinnati with him to Michigan State. The lone MSU assistant that will apparently be staying with the Spartans is Dan Enos. Enos has been the primary recruiter for Elite 11 quarterback Keith Nichol who verbally committed to play at MSU.
Joe Rexrode of the Lansing State Journal writes that Cincy defensive coordinator and interim head coach Pat Narduzzi remains with the Bearcats but is likely to join the MSU staff soon.
Seven members of Dantonio’s Cincinnati staff of nine resigned Monday and are expected to join him in East Lansing: offensive coordinator Don Treadwell; tight ends coach Mark Staten; defensive line coach Ted Gill; linebackers coach Mike Tressel; defensive backs coach Harlon Barnett; offensive line coach Dan Roushar; and quarterbacks coach Dave Warner.
Defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi has been named interim head coach at Cincinnati. He is expected to come to MSU unless he gets the Bearcats’ top job permanently.
The seven assistants who resigned will return to Cincinnati for a week to coach the Bearcats in their undetermined bowl game, UC sports information director Tom Hathaway said.
Narduzzi is a fan favorite in Cincinnati and many would like to see him retained as the permanent Bearcat head coach. Bearcat Insider writer Tim Adams writes that Narduzzi is the overwhelming fan favorite for the job. It remains to be seen whether he is their administration’s top choice.
From Sunday to Wednesday, Bearcat Insider has had over 70,000 hits and over 800 football posts. Of those 800 football posts, nearly 500 have dealt with the idea of who should be named the new Bearcat football coach. Pat Narduzzi currently is the overwhelming favorite with almost a 3 to 1 advantage over the field. I don’t know if Bearcat Insider has its finger on the pulse of the UC football program and its fans, but hiring Pat Narduzzi certainly seems to be the most popular thing to do. And for a program looking to grow its fan base and sell more season tickets, it might also be the smartest move to make.
