Suton and Gray are stepping up

The good news for MSU fans is that since Joseph and Morgan have been out, the Spartans are getting improved play lately from Goran Suton and Marquise Gray. Over the last two games, the two post players are close to averaging a double-double. Michigan State will need that kind of production in order to compete in the Big Ten. Tim Kirby of the Lansing State Journal writes that Izzo is hoping to see more post production out of Idong Ibok and Drew Naymick.

Coach Tom Izzo said the front line as a whole has made the most progress during the students’ semester break, but said he needs more from Naymick and Ibok.

“They are making some progress, just Naymick is playing way too tight, like thinking every play. I.D. has actually made some progress the last two practices and they’re going to be critical because they’re guarding bigger guys,” Izzo said. “Iowa doesn’t present as many issues inside. They don’t pound it in to their bigs as much as their guards and wings. But with Indiana and Illinois coming up on the road here, we’ve go to make sure those guys get better too, because they’re going have to play more minutes.”
