Spartans let road win escape in close loss to Iowa
Michigan State let a great opportunity for a rare Big Ten road win get away in a 62-60 loss at Iowa on Thursday night. Joe Rexrode of the Lansing State Journal reports that MSU head coach Tom Izzo gave Iowa credit for outworking his team.
t was right there in front of MSU, a chance to open league play with a win against a vulnerable bunch of Hawkeyes. But stuff kept getting in the way - missed layups, unforced turnovers, defensive lapses, wide-open shots that glanced harmlessly off the rim.
And a few hustle plays that Iowa made and the Spartans didn’t, leaving MSU coach Tom Izzo steamed.
“I think you’ve got to give a lot of blame to MSU,” Izzo said. “I thought it was indicative of the game, and give (Iowa) credit, they’re diving on the floor for loose balls and we’re reaching down. That’s not supposed to happen in this program.”
