Jud says it would be “stupid” for Izzo to take UK job

Jud HeathcoteThrough most of his latest blog entry, MLive.com’s Steve Grinczel reiterates that Tom Izzo has basically had “no-comment” on the Kentucky job speculation. Izzo hadn’t even been contacted by UK as of Tuesday morning. Plenty in the media have been commenting on it though. WILX’s Tim Staudt said on the radio this week that he believes Izzo would take the UK job if it was offered. Grinczel doesn’t seem to understand how someone could make such an assumption based on the current facts.

What we found most amusing about Grinczel’s blog entry though was what Izzo’s mentor Jud Heathcote had to say about the possibility of Izzo leaving for UK. Jud thud

What I do know is that with the exception of his father, there is no man in the world who Izzo respects more than retired Spartan coach and mentor Jud Heathcote.

In talking on the phone with Heathcote on Monday about Boylen, it was only natural that the idea of Izzo leaving MSU for Kentucky would come up. Here’s what he said from his home in Spokane, Wash.:

“That’d be so stupid I couldn’t describe it. Believe it or not, right now, the Michigan State job is better than the Kentucky job, and you don’t get the criticism or the, I don’t know, interference that permeates that program.”

I don’t know what Izzo’s going to do, but I do believe Heathcote is a wise man in all things basketball and in life in general, and whose opinion means a lot to Izzo.

And it was the philosopher Plato who said: “A wise man speaks because he has something to say; a fool because he has to say something.”
