Big Ten Network will be in HD at launch
It isn’t often that we link to more traditional high tech blogs, but Engadget, one of the best around, has great news for Big Ten fans. Engadget HD reports that when it is launched this August, most Big Ten Network programming will be produced in high-definition.
College football and basketball are truly amazing in HD. It sounds like a cliche but it really does provide a much better viewing experience than standard definition television.
What still isn’t clear is which cable and satellite companies will carry the station besides DirecTV. The BTN site does say that it will be “available” to carriers nationwide.
The Big Ten Network will be made available to all cable and satellite carriers and distributors nationwide. Most events and programs will be produced in High-Definition television (HDTV).
In addition to traditional distribution through cable and satellite, select Big Ten Network content will also be made available through alternative media platforms such as the Internet, iPods, cell phones and/or other emerging technologies.
For more information about the network, see the Big Ten Network site.
