Dantonio sends notice with depth chart
Mark Dantonio sent a message to Michigan State’s returning players with this year’s MSU media guide depth chart. Several assumed starters are listed as backups. Shannon Shelton of the Detroit Free Press found a few noticeable examples.
Spartans fans will remember similiar tactics by former coaches during the preseason. Let’s hope Dantonio’s approach is more successful.
For at least three veteran players, their notice could be found on Page 34 of the 2007 media guide distributed at the Big Ten football media kickoff Tuesday morning.
The preseason depth chart printed on that page listed senior SirDarean Adams as the Spartans’ second-string weakside linebacker, behind redshirt freshman Eric Gordon, and showed senior Terry Love at fourth-string wide receiver behind junior Devin Thomas, redshirt freshman David Williams and junior Carl Grimes.
Sophomore wide receiver T.J. Williams, who earned six starts last season while Matt Trannon was injured, wasn’t listed at all. Dantonio said that Williams is still on the team, but would not detail whether he’d report to the first day of practice Sunday.
“We’ll deal with that internally,” Dantonio said.
