Love is back for MSU offense in 2nd scrimmage

MSU footballThe athletic department hasn’t provided stats from MSU’s second scrimmage yet but according to the Lansing State Journal’s Joe Rexrode, Terry Love is back with the team and the Michigan State offense won the team’s second scrimmage 66-64.

Rexrode reports that quarterback Nick Foles may be in the lead to win the backup quarterback position and Andre Anderson is pushing A.J. Jimmerson for the 3rd string running back position.

Nick Foles might seem to have the inside track at the No. 2 job, at least in the fact that he got the first work with the No. 2 offense. He got a long look, definitely more reps than fellow freshman Kirk Cousins. He threw some nice passes, most of them short or intermediate throws. However, Cousins made some eye-opening plays, including a roll-out bomb to B.J. Cunningham for a touchdown. And Connor Dixon had some moments as well. All made mistakes. It’s too close to call from this vantage point between Foles and Dixon.

Andre Anderson dropped some jaws. He ripped off a couple huge runs, juking and showing power and big-time speed. But A.J. Jimmerson also looked good. Both did some damage against the No. 1 defense. That looks to be a very good race to be the No. 3 running back behind Javon Ringer and Jehuu Caulcrick.
