Confirmed: MSU heading to Orlando for Champs Sports Bowl against Boston College

Champs Sports Bowl
Dave Dye of the Detroit News has confirmed that Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans are heading to Orlando, Florida for the holidays. MSU’s opponent will be No. 14 Boston College from the ACC.

The Champs Sports Bowl is scheduled for Friday December, 28th at 5:00 p.m. in Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium. It will be televised on ESPN.

Like Michigan State, Boston College (10-3) has a first-year coach in Jeff Jagodzinski, a former offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. He replaced Tom O’Brien, who left B.C. for North Carolina State.

Boston College won its first eight games and was ranked No. 2 before losing three of its last five. Still, the Golden Eagles advanced to Saturday’s ACC championship game, but lost to Virginia Tech, 30-16.

Quarterback Matt Ryan emerged as a Heisman Trophy candidate during B.C.’s fast start before falling out of race in the last few weeks. Ryan, a senior, passed for 4,258 yards and 28 touchdowns with 18 interceptions. He was named the ACC Player of the Year.
