Dick said hadn't spoken to Knight since the interview and was waiting for an apology for (one) being such an obstinate ass to Jeremy in a professional interview, and (two) for bringing his name into the interview for no good reason. He and Knight didn't speak again before Dick Schapp passed away.
I don't know about anyone else, but I respect Dick Schapp's professional opinion on Jeremy a hell of a lot more than I do Knight's, BW's, or Jim Harrick's.

I saw Jeremy Schaap’s interview with Bobby Knight and also Dick Schaap’s commentary as well (which was days after, not months, during the “parting shots” segment of the Sports Reporters). Dick Schaap was my favorite sports journalist but his commentary was simply a father defending his son (regardless if his son was right or wrong). He was not his usual objective self and this is the only time I ever saw Dick Schaap noticeably angry on the air. In all honesty, he did not come off very well.
Jeremy Schaap was acting like a snot nosed kid during the interview. Like him or hate him, Bobby Knight is one of the greatest coaches in history. If you are a (very young) professional reporter and Bobby Knight gives you an interview, I think it is a given you will show him a modicum of respect. Apparently, Jeremy Schaap figured he would just rip Bobby Knight a new one and Coach Knight would sit there and take it. He simply figured wrong, Bobby Knight made the younger Schaap look like an idiot and Schaap deserved it.
