Well, the reporters never attribute anything to a coach. Everything is on the DL.
Who knows, they might not talk to a coach exactly, but those very very close to the coaches that know wtf is going on.

What's weird about this is SpartanMag's own policy for a "red" or confirmed commit. From the recruit's mouth, or a family member, or a coach who has first hand knowledge. So, by SpartanMag's own rules, this is a commit.

You are assuming that SpartanMag acts without knowledge of who has been offered, or at least that they don't use their contacts to find out if certain kids have offers.
Like I said, how is this any different than some kid from Holt telling people he was offered a scholarship by USC and is committing to them?

One thing to keep in mind is that there are things such as conditional offers...like "we are offering you a scholarship as long as _________."
This is all too confusing and ****ed-up to say one way or another what is really going on. Personally, I am siding with the SpartanMag guys because they cover this **** for a living and they get the benefit of the doubt from me.

Dion Guy according to him, his parents and his high school coach has an offer and has accepted it. Hondo just scooped the mag guys plain and simple. On this occasion Hondo's sources are no worse then Comp's, Paul's or anybody else's affiliated with rivals. I don’t know why the guys on spartanmag just don’t confirm it, there’s no more official confirmation they could possibly do at this point. Hondo has the kid, his parents, his head coach even his best friend with his mom on record all saying he has an offer and he’s committed to MSU. I'm siding with the kid and his family, I think they know whether or not he has a scholarship offer from Michigan State.

If they got scooped, they have no problem admitting it.
I'm still waiting to hear from the guys that cover the recruiting angle of the program to confirm it.

It happen sometimes that a kid will hear rhetoric about how much he's wanted blah blah blah and then he thinks he has an offer to accept. Happened 3 or 4 years ago with a kid that went to Kentucky. Olu something or other, he was a DE and he thought he had an MSU offer, but never did and ended up a Wildcat.

fwi -- Anthony Woods was moved up to a 3* recruit for all you people who think stars is the only thing that matters.
Some of the boys on D could get moved up, Rivals is updating the ranking for postitions

Spartan Magazine just got off the phone with Nii Adjei Oninku of Clayton Northmont Ohio and he did confirm that he will be playing football for the Michigan State Spartans next year.
“I committed to Michigan State. I will be visiting this weekend” Oninku said.
Oninku informed Spartan Magazine that the Spartan Staff believes he will have an excellent opportunity to see the field early on. The Spartans graduate DE Greg Taplin and did not sign a HS DE last year.
Oninku is ranked one of the top players in the Midwest. He is ranked the #29 Defensive End in the nation by Rivals.com. Ohio Future Stars rates him as the #16 player in Ohio.
The Spartans now have commitments from some of the top players in Ohio. Oninku joins Brian Hoyer, Tony Howard, Michael Bell, Dan McGarry and Ron Stoops as Ohio players who will be Spartans next year.
The 6'3 245 pound Oninku was recently selected 1st Team All-District and 2nd Team All-Ohio Divisoin 1 (biggest schools).
The Spartans are looking to add a few more defensive linemen to the class of 2004. The commitment of Nii Adjei Oniku is a big step in the right direction.
We will have more on Oninku soon.

i feel so much better about the class now!!
however, remember rankings ARE important in terms of perception. a team that pulls in highly ranked classes and has the same results as teams with average classes, and both have the same number of wins that year, generally the first team will have better success recruiting the next year and beyond (aka Illinois)

also, don't be surprised if Hoover loses his 4* ranking.
People were enamored with his size, which led to his high ranking, I think people are coming back to earth on him.
Not saying he isn't a good get, or will end up a fine spartan, I just think, from looking at the film (never seen him play live) that he is more a high 3* prospect than a 4*.
We will see what happens to him though

But he had a UM offer, how could he be any lower than a 4*?

Hoover did get bumped down....
We now have 1 - 4 star, 7 -3 star, and 4 - 2 star recruits.
Not that it really matters but I believe our class gained 1 star overall. I know it is meaningless, just interesting.

Hoover runs a 4.55 forty and dominates his competition, no reason for him to have lost a star today, you and the rivals idiots need to get out and watch him play sometime. he defeats a double/triple team and wrecks havoc on every play.

Funny thing with Hoover is that he moved up from #21 to #18 at his position yet moved down a star....More proof that Rivals is behind the blue wall

Has not officially recieved written offer from how it sounds. He has committed to play but does exactly mean he will, although I think when it's all said and done he will. Pt being that he has not even been to campus for camp, unofficial, game etc...
