Hoover went up in the ranking because rivals moved a bunch of players from weakside D-end to Strongside D-end, thats why it looked like he moved up

One thing I really like about this class, I don't see any weak links or kids that I don't see making any sort of impact for the program. This recruiting depth is the key to building depth on the field.

not to sound like a smartazz....but you saw weak link kids in previous classes that would have to chance on making an impact?

Yeah, I felt like JLS, after he got verbals from players that he could actually land, would fill the last 5 or so spots with kids that maybe shouldnt deserve a schollie but wanted to make sure that everything was filled.

I think this is BS, I recall maybe three commits during his tender that I thought would never contribute, saying 5 per class is just silly.

I would say I was right, hence the reason why we have zero depth right now at almost all positions.

A few years back there was a "Spartan Pride" on the M Live board that really knew what he was talking about. The latest version doesn't know jack.

I didn't literatly mean 5 per class. But if we recruited 20-25 players per class that would help us toward our goal of building winning teams, we wouldn't be having these depth issues right now. I don't think we will be taking players just to take them. Dantonio has said he will only take players to help him build a championship. Not because it could get someones friend here or whatnot.
That is all I'm saying. I would like to see how you feel differently.

Our lack of depth has more to do with attrition and JLS not signing evenly distributed classes. We brough in way to many skill players and not enough players on D. If thats what you mean then I agree. If your standing by what you said, that he was filling multiple ships a year with players he knew and we knew would never contribute just to fill space then no I do not agree.

What! you mean signing five 5'8" receivers for every one lineman is a bad idea . In all seriousness John L did sign some good players (Ringer, caulcrick, gyetvai, romart,st dic, baldwin, gordon etc) but it was the way he prioritized our needs.

To bad Baldwin, St Dic and Caulcrick were not used properly. Hell, St Dic and Thomas were hardly ever used

Nice observation, Natron. I think that's pretty solid as well. Of course, I wouldn't be disappointed with talent from other areas either. It's so nice not to have a clown as our coach finally.

Agreed. In time, they'll start branching out, Florida and Texas for instance, but for the time being there are so many really good players in Michigan and Ohio that we can really build a good team by staying local. Once we're competing for championships, we'll get the big boys in the south, but the time being I like this tactic a lot.
