No argument. JLS certainly didn't do this very successfully. I think Dantonio truly understands the Big 10 in ways JLS never did.

tactic or coincidence? I do not have the inside knowledge of strategy and if he is focusing highly on smaller areas rather than shotgun further away.
I just want solid players, from MI, OH or CA, FL...just get them to come here and be effective.
Sure it will be easier as a more solid program to go to CA,FL but we could get the better players from MI,OH at that point also.
There is much work to do at this point on this recruiting class. I am hopeful of some surprises.

why do fans keep saying this like its a surprise? We have been a laughing stock for 40 years minus a few good runs here and there. We havent been relevant in a long frickin time.

That is not true. If you have an offer from Florida Atlantic or MSU, you are probably going to want to play for MSU.

UM is a national program. MSU is a regional program.

What exactly are you trying to achieve with your last several posts?
If you are trying to tell us that MSU has a long ways to go, well, thanks.
Got it.
Otherwise, the rest of that crap is just kicking a dog when it's down.

Good to hear.
No, I don't think the 5 stars are beating down MSU's door: yet.
However, give me a 3 star who bleeds Green and is willing to work over a 4 star from a sexy out of state location any day of the week.

I thought about writing something here but since I don't know squat about recruiting and since I think Dantonio is doing a good job the I won't.

1. There are elite programs (like the ones you have listed above)
2. There are great programs like Texas, Nebraska (most years), Penn State, West Virginia, Florida State, Auburn, Alabama
3. There are decent programs like Wisconsin, Purdue, Louisville,
4. There are average to slightly below average programs like Arizona, Kentucky, Iowa, Northwestern
5. There are subpar programs like Indiana, Baylor, Duke, Rice
Where do you think MSU falls? In the 90's I would have said #3, now we are #4. We need to shoot to get back to #3. If Dantonio can do that, he will be a success at MSU. He needs time to get us to that. The only way you ever fire Dantonio is if he takes us down to #5 which is what JLS was on the verge of doing. I truly believe that Dantonio will have us bowling again by '09 .

Of course the other Spartan Pride knew more about MSU's recruiting and the inner-workings of the MSU football program than anyone who has EVER posted on here, mlive, spartanmag, or scout (at least among those who have posted about such things).
He probably has some good insight on Illinois these days.

Michigan State lost to Iowa on Saturday in a game that more so than any other this year showed just what positions the Spartans need to address in recruiting. Watching an Iowa team that has been hurt by injuries and discipline suspensions out play the Spartans in a pivotal second half was partly an issue of talent in the two deeps. Talent in the two-deeps is a direct reflection of past recruiting success.

I'm realitivly certain he hasnt as he said he was waiting on us and OSU to offer to commit. Just because Rivals.com puts him as a 3 star dosen't mean the kid is better than some of the other kids that actually have offers.

This is the problem with recruiting websites -- we see the stars, become enamored, and then question why certain players are not recruited. Hence, we inherently believe that the recruiting services know more than our coaches. Look, if we offered, and got verbals from, Drew Stevens and J. Williams at LB, and not Gardiner, doesn't that mean that Gardiner is probably a plan C at best. Also, that means that the coaching staff likes these two 2 stars, better than Gardiner, a 3 or 4 star (per Rivals and Scout). However, if Gardiner commits after all our other LB options fall, people will be saying hallelujah, we finally got a good LB, thus putting more faith in Jeremy Crabtree or Bob Lichtenfels than .

Gardiner was offered I believe by West Virginia and I think Pitt. That helped him become a 3 star IMO before he actually went to most of the summer camps. If his Senior year film is good more schools will offer. Remember he may be a better fit in another style of defense and some 2 star kids may be better suited to play what Narduzzi and Dantonio want.

He's around 205 lbs, which is where Misch is, and that's light for a BT LB. How much bulk can you put on a kid? Second, MSU's LB problems don't allow for time to bulk the kid up. Seems like his weight makes him a project and MSU would still need to find a LB or two who will be ready to hit the gridiron playing.

So are there any recruits we should expect a commit from shortly, or at least an announcement? What kids do we have the best chance to get still?

I'd be surprised to see any verbals in November. December 1st will be a big recruiting weekend for MSU. Hopefully the football team is stil playing.
