I do think MSU has a chance to steal one or two, which is honestly more of a chance than I would have given them in the beginning of the summer; like I said, kudos to Dantonio- he's definitely working hard.

Past performance will not be indicative of future success in this case. In case you missed it, we have a new coach. It looks like things are changing in the Great Lakes State.
Be honest, you have to be more nervous than you ever have. This isn't an Antonio Bass situation where every one could tell that it was just lip service when he was teasing JLS. This has a completely different feel.

PREDICTION: Rich Rodriguez will be fired or leave his job in disgrace. 'His players' won't save him from his own incompetant coaching. I really hope they give him three full seasons. 10/31/8

Well, Carr has already beaten out Dantonio for three guys (Cissoko, O'Neil, Martin).
And no, I'm not as nervous as I've ever been. Every new MSU coach makes me nervous. From a recruiting standpoint, I felt most nervous when Bobby was the coach- he beat out UM for a decent amount of guys and recruited the state pretty well. I think you guys are mistakenly assuming that the cowboy era is as well as MSU has ever recruited the state- when in fact Saban and BW always seemed to get a few guys.

Spartans discover Detroit
Dantonio intensifies MSU's effort to recruit in city after things lapse during Smith's tenure.
Dave Dye / The Detroit News
EAST LANSING -- Whether it's high school coaches, fans, alumni or donors, coach Mark Dantonio is trying to reach out and change the perception of Michigan State football that existed when he took over in November.
"We've been put in a position of leadership here," Dantonio said. "Not just for this football team, but for this university and for this state. You need to be able to touch people when you can. We've tried to do that as best we can."
Thomas Wilcher, coach at Detroit Cass Tech, said he met with Dantonio's predecessor, John L. Smith, twice in four years. Wilcher has already met with Dantonio three times. The new MSU staff has held coaching clinics at Cass Tech, Detroit Country Day and Northville.
"When John L. was there, they stayed away from Detroit, the inner-city kids," said Wilcher, who played at Michigan in the 1980s. "(Dantonio) is trying to reach out to Detroit and the metro area. They're trying to let everybody know, 'Our school is here for you, we're in Detroit, we're here for Detroit.'
"They've been to city track meets, watching kids run. They're just trying to show up, be seen, be noticed. I think something positive is going to happen (at MSU)."
James Reynolds, coach at Detroit King, is taking more of a wait-and-see approach.
"It's really too early to tell," Reynolds said of Dantonio's possible impact in Detroit. "But they want to be in Detroit. If he (Dantonio) does the same kind of job he did at Cincinnati, he should be OK."
Dantonio said he was out recruiting for eight or nine days during the spring, and three or four of those included Detroit.
"There's good football in the suburbs, and in the city, and we're going to work hard to try to reenter that area," Dantonio said.

Smith said he was going to MSU, then OSU for their camp.

It's great that we're in on a great RB and a couple of good LBs but is anyone else nervous about the lack of QB targets? Foles and the other QB are good options, but I was hoping for a higher rated option at QB. Even in the past 7 or 8 years, despite our troubles, we've always seemed able to land highly rated QB's: Stanton, Smoker, Hoyer, Natale, and even NIchol for a while.

Next year QB will be a major target. Hoyer is the QB.

I understand your point, buy if I had to choose between a class of a top QB and a bunch of crap line prospects as opposed to a solid regional QB and stellar line and defensive recruits..I'd take the latter.
Dantonio's offense may not be as initially attractive to QB's as Slappy's run and gun.

I'm interested to hear how this Follet kid from MI performs at camp today. He was mentioned as a dark horse candidate in the last Elite 11 camp article.
I agree with Big M. I'd rather the coaches focus on both lines than QB at this point. Though I suppose we're still technically in the Pryor sweepstakes, however much of a longshot it may be.

True, especially in MD's run-featured offense its more important to have a solid O-line.
It's also a really really bad year for instate QB's. Last year was waaaaay better. There was Nichol, the QB who went to GT, one who went to Duke and one who went to Wisconsin.

UM guys seem to think there are a few decent in-state ones, but yeah, nobody special.

Follett isn't really that great. he was the QB for my brothers team last season and transferred to another school because he was losing his starting position to to to-be sophomore. he will more than likely end up at wmu/emu/cmu or like a hope college type school

But he's got no credibility yet he posts his 'opinions' like they are insider info/facts. Thanks for sticking up for the u-m guy though.

And Ohio is weak for QBs this year, too. So our top 2 states are having down years for QBs. That will make it tougher. Unless we get Pryor by some great twist of fate, I'm hoping there are some good prospects to target next year. Then again, maybe someone from Ohio or Michigan will step up and have a blow out senior year and become a legitimate Big 10 prospect.
