Iowa just signed another RB today. That's two this week. Suddenly, the door isn't as wide-open for Ingram there.

My only concern with Ingram is 'Bama.

Hamani Stevens to announce on January 26th at the Southern CA Bowl. Says that Oregon is the team to beat.

Dantonio needs to go all out on him, make him our top priority, and let the asssistants take care of the few spots we have left.

I'd rather they focus all their energy on Perry, but everyone has their idea of who is the most important.

It sounds like Michigan is going to be on top of Perry's list now, according to Jim Comparoni over at SpartanMag....

Let's face it. We need a few seasons of 7-8 wins before we can start stealing the 4* recruits. It's sort of depressing, but that's just the way it is.

What's depressing is seeing the Arizona's of the world hauling in 4 or 5 four stars.
Not sure why MSU can't ever catch lightning in a bottle. (not at all saying Dantanio is inept as a recruiter, I just wonder how other schools manage to do it.)

Have to think that we're in much better position with 2009 QB Mike Schaaf given the spread option UM will now be running.

Gotta say, that Bellotti hasn't been setting the world on fire in Eugene the last few years. He really screwed up his team's chances this season when he let Dixon play with a glass knee, instead of getting the backup the reps he'd need to run the O. The backup would have been ready for UA too, it was 12 or 13 days between Dixon getting hurt and UO playing UA. It wasn't like they didn't know just how bad Dixon's knee was messed up either. Yet the guy keeps getting the kids. Stevens was a pretty long shot, UO is a lot closer to home.

Last I checked Wisconsin, with all they've done, were still loaded up with 3 star players.
We aren't alone in a fertile recruiting base
We don't have a 100,000 + stadium and all the lore
It ain't warm...
Coach D has to overcome a lot of disadvantages.
We do have a huge fan base. An administration that seems willing to spend. A talented to very talented coach. We'll see. Meantime, we've got an elite basketball program. Plenty of reason to be happy.

Yes, plenty to be happy about. I think Coach D will get things done in time, and it will take time for sure. It would be nice to get excited about football again, though. After seeing Missouri and Kansas play for the right to be in the BCS title game, it starts to make you wonder why can't those things happen to MSU.
Patience is a hard thing. If we can have a few years where we win more than we lose in November (like this year), that will go a long way IMO.

overreaction imo. Sure, they will be more of a player, but MSU and USC have been the teams to beat. MSU has been on him the longest and having family watch/relationships with coaches and players are very important to him. We've paved the way more for that than any other school. We will see tho.

Looks like rod has never been fantastically successful recruiting OLs. Are OL's turned off from the spread option offense or is it just more difficult to recruit at WV?
Will make a run at any of UM's OL commits?

Not sure, but I know our OLs had a lot of growing pains going from JLS's spread to Dantonio's formation. I guess everything from pre-snap stance to how to block changed. I'd imagine this makes you a tougher sell in the pros

If Perry goes to UM, he will play against the spread every day in practice, leaving him (and UMs team in the future) with an inability to stop the run which is disaster in the Big Ten.

I couldn't agree more, I was just telling you what I read last night. I truly hope that Perry comes here, I think it would be a great fit for him and for MSU, but we will see, USC is a strong draw...

Smith would be a great get...has to be the back up plan if we don't get perry.
From what I've heard on here, it seems like Perry would be the immediate starter, opposite Trevor Anderson.
If we get Smith, would he likely start too, or are we thinking MJ?

I'd be a little surprised if even Perry is starting, at least at the beginning of the year. Regardless of Perry, I think MJ or Brandon Long will start. Maybe they stick with MJ at DT, but it seems there is more need at DE. Long was pretty solid this year. There's a lot to be said for experience and knowledge, and I don't think he'll give up the job to Perry very easily. I think Perry will be awesome, but if he comes here and starts within the first half of the season (barring injuries), then we really have something special on our hands. It's not like Greg Jones who came into an extremely thin position. We've got some decent guys lining up at DE next year.
