That is exactly what I thought when I first read all this. I am prepared to be underwhelmed from here on out, but I think has done "good enough" so far and should finish that way. That the top 25-35 finish we are all hoping for, but solid none the less. *disclamer* i take back everything I just said if we get Perry and Ingram both. If we land both, thats an outstanding class for a program like MSU.

He's not going to MSU. There are reports his family really, really dislikes MSU for something that happened ?? years ago.

When people started with all the magenta crap, I mentioned that I thought he could be a possible one, but it was just a guess. He was interested in State before so it seemed logical.

I have no problem with 's tendencies, but I can see why some complain about his strategy given that he declined to offer a 4* player this weekend and at the same time may have bagged a couple 2* who may not even be academically eligible.

I think we need to take a step back and put things in perspective:
Fred Smith: could have committed to UofM and chose MSU
Burrell: obviously a great athlete and a great recruit
Many solid prospects that could turn out to be great players
Still have chances with Ingram and Perry
And even if we don't land Ingram and Perry there are still recruits out there that will make this class very solid. Not very flashy or highly rated, but solid. I think we are all dissapointed by Hill but there is nothing we can do but trust that Dantonio will make the right choices and that maybe we don't get all the best talent but we get all the best character, with lots of heart, dedication and a will to win.

If they didn't offer the 4* there was a good reason. TJ Williams was a 4* and most of us are glad he's gone. IF the staff didn't offer this 4*, you have to believe it's because they saw something they didn't like.

Well, you obviously think this is a ridiculous statement, but I think he is correct. You know how many times I have watched MSU football and thought, "God, do we just recruit players who make dumb decisions on purpose?" I think Dantonio is taking care of this, and I firmly believe that having more composed players who play smart, and hard will win us a game our two a year. This may seem like an overstatement, but I really think it is true.

So with 8 spots left...
I think MD said we would sign 6-8 more guys last week, so now we are looking at 5-7.
Hill is gone, Stevens is out, Youboty is out, Fitzgerald is not coming...
Here is basically what we could still get at this point:
Bishop (Likely if he qualifies)
Perry (Like our chances better after Hill to scUM)
Ingram (Us vs Saban)
Lucas (We are his last visit, and can offer immediate PT)
Webb (A long-shot, but we may get a look)
Scruggs (Thinking of taking a late Jan/early Feb visit)
J. Smith (Starting to get more offers, currently has us & Mizzou as top 2)
Balogun (Looks like he wants to play in the south, but liked his visit)
Edet (Weird situation surrounding his no-show, not a good feeling here)
Cameron & Ryan Jude (No info on these guys, except they liked their visit)
Here is my guess:
We get one of: Ingram, Perry
We get one of: Lucas, Balogun, Edet
We get one of: Scruggs, Smith
We get Bishop
We get the Jude Bros.
We do not get Webb

While I completely agree that we have a huge need for smart players, non-thugs, good citizens....we also have a glaring need for talent. I know I am just overreacting to another failure but it just sucks that we cant win any of these late recruiting battles for some reason or another.

I don't see what one has to do with the other. I am convinced Perry will be a DE, while Hill will be a WLB.

I agree that it sucks we are losing recruiting battles and keep getting dissapointed. Althought, I would much rather have a kid that works his ass off to be the best he can rather than some four star kid who thinks he is awesome and should have everthing handed to him.

Not everyone is convinced he will be a DE. U of M liked him as a DE/Lb like he played in high school. That seems to be the type of player Hill will be. Remember Hill only weighs 205.

This has been said numerous times but people need to relax about the rankings. They are a joke. Wasn't there a post about a 5* at FSU that didn't pan out? Rankings are just based on opinion. Would I like a team of 5* recruits...sure. More importantly I want someone with the drive to succeed rather than some prima donna.

I'm happy to say that this thread is the most viewed and has the most replies out of all the threads currently on tRCMB. I'm very happy that it's actually about MSU.

There is a reason that the more successful schools that get the 4-5* kids continue to STAY successful.

Just get Perry and Ingram and it will be a successful year. With Perry we would have 3-4 PSL kids which will help tremendously in the future with recruits. Ingram is a must...family ties and he would solidify the RB position for the next 4 years..

I think James Laurenitis (sp) was a lowly 3 star recruit. How did he turn out?

Look at the final team rankings over the past several years and for all the USC's and LSU's, there are Notre Dame's and FSU's. It's not getting the talent, it's what you do with it. Anytime USC recruits a kid they automatically get bumped up to a 4 or 5*.

Agreed. But I think that is easier said than done. Both have huge offers from top tier schools and would be a huge statement if they were to choose MSU. That said I think we will end up with one of them.

people need to stop throwin out the random 3*/2* that pan out as great players (although I still think Laurenitis is not as good as advertised, his pass defense blows) or the 5* that don't. Fact of the matter is more often than not the 5* and 4* players are good to great players and cornerstones to your team. 3* players more often than not are good players who will contribute and 2* are hopeful diamonds in the rough. I think we have some solid kids in this years class but are missing on kids that take us to the next level. Where do you point the finger? Here's what we offer: Playing time - check, Facilities - check, Fan support - check(lol), game coaching - pretty good for year 1, attitude - check, recruiting philosophy - FAIL
