Based on what happened with Jones this season, I don't understand what LB recruits are thinking. Unless MSU has some silents at LB, it doesn't make sense that kids wouldn't be thinking, "Coach Tressell make me next year's Greg Jones.

I would like to see more LB prospects come our way like you guys all do, but even if we don't land any more great prospects, while VERY undesirable, it would NOT be apocalyptic.
No one has mentioned Misch and Rouse. I'm not saying they're world beaters, but I think they were at least serviceable this year, Misch until he got the injury at the end of the year.
But also consider, with Trevor Anderson entering the fray (need I remind you...All Big East DE two seasons ago), and some young undeveloped guys on DL (Wilson, Jordan, Jeremiah, Graham) we could always move Brandon Long back to LB. Someone up earlier suggested moving Jeanrette to LB, which is also a possiblity. Personally, based on his size and what I DID see of him, I viewed him as more suited for LB this year anyway, but got the idea that Narduzzi put in the secondary because that was our biggest area of need. I don't know; just speculation on my part. Bringing in Burrell, Trawick, and Adams (assuming they all hold to sign LOIs) beefs up the defensive backfield, so I could easily see Jeanrette playing some LB.
Don't get me wrong, we do need some depth at the spot, whether it be from Perry, J. Smith, Lucas, Edet, Balogun, etc. But if we don't get our target # of LB prospects, I don't think it will be the end of the world. Not necessarily saying you guys are all painting it that way, but it's the feeling I kind of get from some posts on here. Also consider how guys like Saint-Dic, Baldwin, Jones, Gordon, Wilson, and even some of the DBs (KDC, Wiley, Key) improved this year under Narduzzi's tutelage for less than a full year. I hope I'm not overly touting Narduzzi's ability here, but to me, as important as recruting is, player development can always trump it if you're good enough at it.

I was very impressed by the improvement of a lot of guys defensively, considering this staff was basically starting from scratch when they arrived.

I know I'm saying this at least partially because I hate Michigan, but what makes (or made) them think they had a snowball's chance in hell of getting him in the first place (especially over tOSU, LSU and PSU in his home state?)

I am sure the mini meltdown is the news Pryor is taking an official to LSU.
I have good feelings that this sudden non interest from Edet (who we didn't know 1 week ago) and Lucas is not all their choice. I just feel from what I have heard that we have good news to follow this 'bad' news.
Here is how I see the class finishing, IMHO:
Perry
Ingram
Smith
Balogun
Bishop
OL (sanderson?)
1 of the Judes
Some surprises. Maybe Koger?
I think that class would shutup the doubters on here

I guess its that one of the UofM players told someone that Pryor is UofM bound and is playing UofM.
I don't see Sanderson. Granted FSU is getting short but I think its going to be tough to get him to come north.
Give me Ingram Balogun and Perry and I will be ecstatic.

That's a Top-25 class for sure.

I think his good season overall outweighed his bad bowl game. If a recruit watches the bowl game and says "I don't wanna go there because the QB threw 4 INTs", then I don't want that recruit.

He had a pretty good year. Better than expected. Sure he played like crap that game but he had a big piece in getting us there.

BTW, for all you star nuts out there. . .this is the most 3-stars (11) we've had in a class since before 2002 (last year in the rivals database). For everyone clamoring for more depth, it's on the way. A team of well-coached 3-stars with a few 4 and 5 star playmakers is a damn good team (WVA, BC, Kansas, Mizzou, South Florida, Wake Forest, Wisky are all examples of teams like this)
I for one, am excited about the depth already in this class.
|
The thing that has hurt this program is not that we haven't had enough 4-stars, it's the attrition we've suffered. We need kids who pass their classes and don't run afoul of those bothersome Michigan felony statutes. If we need a team of all 2 and 3-stars to ensure our players aren't mugging their fellow students, that's just fine with me. Character counts. Don't forget, a lot of the kids we've lost to these problems were highly-regarded recruits, talent-wise. The more successful schools get the kids with talent AND character, we've often gotten stuck with the ones with talent only. It hasn't worked.

1- He had UM in his initial top 4. It isn't like this came completely out of nowhere. He dropped UM because of the pro style offense.
2- His cousin is a WR on UM's team
3- He had WVU near the top of his list BECAUSE of RR, period.
4- RR's offense is absolutely perfect for him.

Yeah, yeah. And so does Chauncey Billups, Terrell Owens, 50 Cent, Michael Irvin......you get the idea.
Lemme guess, 5th removed? They grew up playing in the same conference against one another, so they're "cousins?"

I don't think recruits give a damn about what kind of season hoyer had. I think they look at the fact that we're 7-6, not 8-5, and that we lost our bowl game.

One game difference in record isn't enough to change their minds. One game doesn't change the depth chart, doesn't change the experiences on campus, doesn't change the relationship with the coaches.
