For those of you who are theorizing that a silent Perry commit is scaring off LB recruits, (please please please), let me ask you something:

Suppose Perry told MD he wanted to come to State Tuesday. What does MD do?

1. Leak the news right away -- Good PR, but you run the risk of Perry's other suitors putting on the full-court press between now and Feb. 6.

2. Keep it quiet -- Makes Perry's other suitors waste time and effort, but you lose the PR boost with other recruits.

Would you keep it quiet in order to have a big splash closer to signing day? Would you tell other recruits at the same position to go ahead and look elsewhere? MD has shown to be a man of high moral fiber, so it wouldn't surprise me if he would do this under those circumstances, but it sure seems a little risky. If Perry changes his mind or gets snatched away, we've got no plan B.

The whole "Perry is a silent verbal so that's why no other LBs are interested" idea is a pile of crap. Perry has more visits left, he isn't close to being a silent verbal anywhere. If anyone is a silent verbal, it's Ingram.

Gut instinct says Perry comes to MSU....but I'm leery of the trip to USC. Pete Carroll could sell Viagra to Peter North.

Perry isn't even going to be a LB. And you're not worried about UM at all?

I'm not worried about UM as much as I am about USC. USC is a pro factory. They are LA's pro football franchise, they have so much talent.

He's gonna play some OLB and DE hybrid, that's my prediction. At least, if he comes to MSU.

I was really worried about USC, but UM guys have been saying for a while that Perry seems like a kid who will stay closer to home.

We'll see

there's currently 3 on the commitment list (williams,Stevens and Winston)
Ohio recruiting guru Duane long has Williams as a top 20 player in the state of Ohio, Winstons a phenomenal prospect.

but you're the ****ing expert here? The first Linebacker signed is an All American but what the **** does he know right?

Completely disagree! Most of the kids aren't thinking 1 game difference. They're looking at 7 - 6 and thinking barely a winning record, where if they were looking at 8 - 5 they'd be thinking:
A) They won their last three games.
B) They beat a team that was ranked #2 earlier in the season, after coming back against PSU.
C) They're on the verge of being a really good team that could easily win 9 or 10 games next year.

I thought that I saw on here that Winston was going to play RB. I was surprised by that because it seems like he would fill a similar role as Leggett. Any chance that Leggett moves to FB or LB?

Like I said, that doesn't change any of the relationships they have built with the coaches and players.

If records matter so much to all the recruits, then Illinois and North Carolina wouldn't have gotten top-notch talent last year.

Not a chance WInston is a RB for us, at least at any consistant level.

Ingram (if he commits) is our RB of the future.

2008 RBs
Ringer
Jimmerson
Anderson
Leggett
Ray
*Ingram

In other words...we have plenty. I could see him being used as a situation back...

Leggett = Jehu

I think you're probably right. I meant my questions more from a strategy standpoint. What should MD do in that situation, regardless of who the high-profile commit is?

Whatever Perry asked him to do. Period. Keep your word. That's why we have a guy like Dantonio.

I would want Perry to go public and maybe sway recruits like Ingram.

that is crazy talk. Perry WILL be a LB wherever he goes. That is what he wants to play and WILL play. Sure, he will play DE as well. If Michigan will not let him play at LB, then UM does not have a chance. Even Josh H. from rivals is worried about msu. This is the ONLY recruit I have ever seen Josh compliment the job msu has done...and he has done more it on more than one occasion.

Records don't matter so much?! Seems a huge reason um gets recruits is record, vs. campus, climate, nice looking girls, or academics.

Who would go to Lincoln or Norman if they could go to SDSU instead if record doesn't matter?

It'll come down to MSU and UM. And I'm feeling surprisingly good about our chances right now. Which means he'll go to UM.

Oh, and Perry is going to be like Peterson position wise. I think this is clear.

Everyone is plan B for Michigan right now. Their staff is too busy covering up recruiting violations and trying to get out of contracts.

And, if that is really the position Perry wants to play, I would be very surprised if hasn't used that comparison in his sales pitch. Especially since he was the one who recruited Julian here in the first place.
