Cincy: 76/85 recruits were 2* stars or lower with NO 4* or 5*star recuits. They finished the season ranked #17 with a 10-3 record.
ND: 10/77 recruits were 2* stars or lower with 26 4*star and 3 5*star recruits. They finished the season unranked with a 3-9 record.
Charlie Weis may be a great recruiter, but his staff doesn’t know how to develop talent and prepare his players. Dantonio finds players with great upside, willing to learn, hard working, and that stay out of trouble (Florida State knows how important that last point is.)
Remember that Silva guy from Boston College that intercepted 2 of our passes? He was a lowly 2*star recruit and was the lowest rated player taken by BC. I’m not worried about this class at all. Dantonio has seen these guys in person and knows them better than us. He will find guys that fit his system and his staff will push them to their limitations. Trust in Dantonio, he’s not new to this game.

Guaranteed that more Notre Dame players than Cincinnati (on this particular season's rosters) end up in the NFL.........

I would certainly take that bet at this juncture. Too many star gazers get way to hung up on the rankings. MSU recruits DJ Grant for 6 months and he's a 2 star, then Texas and OU offer now all of a sudden he's a 4 Star? The whole things completely subjective.
Tyler Hoover has offers from dozens of BCS programs including us,michigan, wisconsin, miami fl, UCLA. His measurable’s improve and he has an extremely productive senior season yet some how he losses a star and drops out of the top 250 after being in it for months.

I think also that some positions are easier to rate, like WR and RB. But to try and rate Linemen in High School is largely a guessing game. Many of these scouts grading them let the offers guide the rankings

I understand my list is a wish list...but I feel it is also a realistic list. Sure something will come up on a couple guys, but I just feel good with the list. I am not just pulling out of the air, but given MSU recruiting, I am not expecting it either.

It is all about competition. A mediocre talent can look awesome playing average/poor talent and lineman it is very difficult to project exactly how they will perform at the next level. Growth potential and a gamble.

I am NOT a Hoyer basher. He did have a good year. It is scary that he had (2) fumbled snaps and (6) interceptions the last two games of the year.

Anybody know what's up with Youboty and Lucas? I just noticed that scout removed them from the visit list this weekend. They show only Sanderson visiting this weekend and Whaley next weekend.

Even if that winds up being true, point being? That Weis is a piece of **** who takes incredible talent and pisses it down his leg while fans blame Ty?

Youboty said a few days ago that he was down to Nebraska and Cal. He was supposed to be visiting Cal this weekend, but I think it's been said (maybe in here) that he wasn't going to take that visit. I think that Lucas is staying closer to home.
Sanderson and Rolf are visiting this weekend. Whaley, Scruggs, and Fleming next.

I see Scruggs is listed at 6-5. Also, he didn't play football until he was a senior?!?! There might be some big-time potential there. Where is he at on our priority list, AA?

Here's an interesting thread on Scruggs. Sounds like tOSU and Tennessee might still be interested, as well as a slew of others:

Well the staff seems pretty high on him from what the Mag folks are saying. He does not have the offers of a 2 star kid (Tennessee, NC State, Louisville). I think he winds up at Louisville because of all his teammates there....and for some reason Ron English is a draw. I have no idea why.

He'll coach "up" those kids on a consistent basis, meaning that the ones some of us may be disappointed in landing on signing day will become solid if not standout Big Ten players before all is said and done.
I trust 's eye for talent. He's not flashy, and I'm sure his classes won't be on paper very often either. But the kids who want to get better and want to be while running through a brick wall for our coach and our program will be on board, and that's just about all you can ask for as a fan in my book.
Remember, consistency is what we need here and what we've been lacking for a long, long time. is starting to give us an inch; I just hope our fan base doesn't want to immediately take a yard.
|
I think we'll start to get very consistent as a 3 star school with a handful of 4's and the occasional 5 sprinkled in. I also trust MD's eye on 2 star recruits much more so than JLS as I think MD understands what kind of measureables, etc a kid needs to succeed in a rugged conference like the Big 10 and JLS did not.
I think we'll be the type of program that has a lot of 8 and 9 win seasons. If he can push that to having a lot of 9 and 10 win seasons with a good number of NYD bowls (CapOne, Outback) and even a BCS or two tossed in then I think we really start to move up on the radar of the 4 and 5 star players.
The other thing to consider is if ND continues to fall flat on its face and SCum starts to do the same with dickrod I think it only helps our recruiting situation.

I can't wait to see the reaction to the news that Ingram is visiting Arizona State this weekend after he said he was done with his visits.

After the past 8 years, I'll be happy with consistent 8 and 9 win seasons. Lets worry about that right now before 9 or 10 win seasons.

So I just finished the thread and it looks like Scruggs loves basketball and band and plays football only because it's what he's best at. An offer from to walk on to the basketball team Fred Smith style could really help here. Possibly better yet: an offer from {jtm} to allow him to join Spartan Brass after the football season. Now THAT would be a first!

I have no problem with it, but I'm sure a mini-meltdown is imminent.
