Someone remind me about this guy in April and May. I'll give you an update on his speed during track season.

Interesting how in the latest update on John Youboty says that we're trying to get him in for a visit next weekend....especially when he had originally scheduled his official visit here for this weekend, then changed it to Cal, then changed it to Louisville.

Interesting, but not surprising, given we're dealing with 18 year old kids.

Hypothetically, Johnson + Anderson + Hoover + Perry + Youboty + Smith + Scruggs would = a serious infusion of DE talent next year.

I actually had him in there when I first wrote the post, then for whatever reason, I (mistakenly) thought he was listed at DT, so I deleted him. Now edited.

No prob, but a 6'5 265lb guy is a bit small to play DT
I'm just messing with ya, he's got GREAT size for DE. As good as St. Dic and Baldwin were, they were 6'1 and 6'2 respectively. We've got great "size" guys coming in, and with the addition of Worthy to the Jeremiah/Wilson/Wheat tandem the DT position is set for the next few years

I know we're talking about moving Jordan to TE, but with his size, shouldn't we be thinking about putting him at DT? We haven't gotten much production out of our tackles in recent years, and Jordan's pushing 300.

We were just doing that in bowl practices and such. I don't think that he'll leave the D-Line.

That was what I thought when I heard was trying him at the position. For a guy of that size, he better REALLY be able to move if he wants to play TE. Even though I haven't seen him play it, I'd be more comfortable at this juncture with a guy like Gantt or Celek playing most of the snaps there. They were both solid as recruiting prospects and were buried behind two seniors, so I'd like to see what they can do.
BTW, at the people who think we might actually get Koger.
Also, maybe I was just seeing things, but didn't Dwayne Holmes play some TE under JLS? If we're REALLY desperate, maybe give him a try?

Well, a 6'6 300 pounder can play DE, look at Mario Williams, who's 6'7 313 and had 14.5 sacks in the NFL this year (I love that the Texans got slammed for not taking Bush or Young and now have the best player out of those 3 )
Our DTs are going to be YOUNG next year, with Kershaw and Stipek the only Upperclassmen. However, with the way Wilson played this year and Jeremiah's continued improvement, we could be looking at a VERY strong DL for the next 2-3 years.
MJ is a Jr. this coming year, correct? He had 3 years to play 3 if I remember correctly, so he got his feet wet this year and should become productive next season. JUCOs almost always take a full year to develop into decent contributors, so we should reap the benefits of that in the next year.
So here's the bottom line, our DT situation next year looks like this
Starters: Kershaw and Wilson
Back-ups: Stipek, Jeremiah, Wheat (if he doesn't become an OG), Worthy
Our DE situation looks like
Starters: Trevor Anderson and Jordon/Ish Johnson/Brandon Long
Backups: Pickleman (who the staff said had some of the best technique among DE as a frosh), 2 of either Jordan/Johnson/Long, Smith or Perry if we get them and Hoover.
Here's the thing, along both lines total, we have 2 seniors next year, Long and Kershaw. They aren't the most talented or productive, but they're servicable. What this means is that State, IMHO, is building towards a great run in 2009 or 2010 (Likely 10, because that's when Foles will be in his second (projected) year as a starter)
2010 will be the senior years of:
Dell, Gordon, Jones, Jeremiah, Wilson, Pickleman, Foles, etc. Should be a fun time to be a Spartan

Oh, I agree completely. It just struck a chord when you said that because I always thought he was too small to play DT, but I guess (from what I've heard about him) he's not quick enough to play DE. Not criticizing, JK just came to mind when you said that.
Personally, IF some of our DL prospects really pan out, I wouldn't mind seeing the kid's starting spot taken. Nothing against him, he's a great kid from what I've seen, and my heart tells me not to say that. It's just unfortunate he doesn't have the size to really make a big impact at the position like you say. But that considered, he does a fairly good job of being serviceable despite that, and I'd be surprised if Dantonio did actually pull him from the starting lineup.

Yea, I met him when he was a frosh at State, my senior year. Really nice guy, religious, etc. He's a tweener, too small to play DT and too slow to play DE. Oh well, here's to hoping he puts on 20 pounds.

I know he is basically off the board already, but FWIW Sterling Lucas has now recieved an offer from South Carolina. This was the school he really wanted to go to, but they hadn't offered until now.
Balogun, Fleming, Rolf, Jude, and Haynes left on the board. If we were to get two, I'd hope for Balogun & Rolf, but Balogun hasn't been looking to promising as of late.

I agree -- in theory, you'd think that would help our cause.

Not what I hear. He can play immediately and well here vs. OU. We shall see what his comments are after this weekend visit to OU and how it compared to his self rated Excellent visit to EL.

Look at this,
Anderson
Hoover
Jordan
Johnson
Long
Pickelman
Worthy
Seven studs for two slots. Hopefully Worthy and any other DE will redshirt. Add Perry or anyone else to that mix!? Somebody has to go. I really do wonder about the possibilities of moving Pickleman and Long to LB, or perhaps somebody else re-positioning.
