(For MSU fans that think this doesn't happen here, Nick Foles was an Arizona State decommit, Greg Jones was a Minnesota decommit, and I'm sure there are others on the roster).

I do find it interesting though, that Dantonio and his staff are the first school to go after these guys that have a terrible "ranking" (i.e., 1 star, 2 stars, NO stars in Sanderson's case), THEN other big time programs follow with offers and all of a sudden their stock shoots up and they commit elsewhere. Either Dantonio is a good evaluator of talent and he is being taken advantage of in doing other schools' dirty work, the rankings bias is really showing through here, or both.
Both of the guys you mentioned were recruited and committed to coaches who were then canned, and the kids then reopened their recruiting. That's a little different than trying to get a committed recruit to change their mind, decommit, and commit to your school instead. I don't have a problem with either method, seems fair to me.

I think it's more Dantonio is not afraid to offer someone with no offers yet where others like to see what another players offers are and once they see an MSU offer, confirms that they should offer too.

I hope that's true. Less reason to get mad I suppose.

Fair point. I guess the problems lies in the fact that EVERY coach out there knows that AT LEAST one other staff somewhere else is going to try and do it, so if they stick to principle, they're going to get stuck behind the eight-ball, so then they do it, too. Then everyone else thinks the same thing, so it becomes common practice.

Thing is a kid may decide to go somewhere else specifically because his father went to a certain school. "Legacy" can be interpreted by some to mean a recruit didn't 'earn' his spot. Obviously that would be the case in Ingram's situation, but it wouldn't stop some moran from saying so.

Also, MSU would love to get Ingram, and I think it would be a win for both the school and M.I., but the truth is w/o injury it's likely he'd see more playing time as a FRESHMAN at Iowa. If M.I. thinks a little longer term, I think he picks MSU because I believe Dantonio is going to surpass Iowa in the next 2 years.

In the new rivals no. But Charles Rogers would be a 5 star and probably TJ Duckett as well. Jeff Smoker maybe but he would probably be a 4 star I think. Ervin Baldwin was a 5 star on Scout lol

U of M will offer Sanderson on his visit to them it sounds.

"I like it a lot," Sanderson said of Michigan. "A lot of big-time offensive linemen come out of there. They're kind of like a powerhouse with a lot of history and tradition."

Kind of like a powerhouse

Either way chances are he picks u of m over us or if the FSU offer comes through stays home.

Detroit defensive end Nick Perry took his official visit to USC this weekend and now has the Trojans as his top choice. “My top three is USC, Michigan and Miami. Right now USC is at the top," Perry said.

That was the old system. This one may not be as NFL OL friendly.

Not this early before Signing Day though. The news in and of itself is not alarming to me because I didn't think we'd ultimately get him. On the other hand, the timing is aggravating and puzzling.

Last season was what it was, a good start after JLS's 4 - 8 masterpiece. The staff & team will improve on 7 - 6 next year, hopefully by 2 games, with a bowl win, and next year's class will have some more 4 stars. In 2 or 3 years MSU will have a chance with the 5 star kids, unless the kid grew up bleeding green like Duckett or Stanton.
