Anyone seen anything on Quincy Barr down here near Tampa. This was mentioned in the St. Pete Times yesterday
Quote:
How much can a qualifying test score boost a recruit's stock?
Consider the case of Quincy Barr.
Earlier this month, the Riverview defensive end was getting minimal interest at best from major-college programs. But when word came two weeks ago that Barr, who is 6 feet 4, 225 pounds, scored well on his SAT, his coach's phone almost immediately began ringing off the hook.
"It's been crazy," Sharks coach Dan O'Regan said. "He's got quite a bit going on. He's going to have some nice choices."
Colorado State and Michigan State stopped by to see Barr last week. Boise State will drop by this week. Barr will visit Division I-AA Hofstra this weekend. And two other I-AA programs, powers Appalachian State and Youngstown State, also are involved.
Michigan State could be the program to watch.
The Spartans, who are recruiting a handful of area players, are expected to decide soon if they will bring Barr in for an official visit.
"They told me if they fly him up, they're going to offer," O'Regan said.

You have to be impressed with how this staff has been on top of things. They must have started out with a huge list of kids to keep tabs on.

If the class turns out to be average in the rankings it was certainly not for a lack of effort...they have covered A LOT of ground.

Funny, I've been on this site for just over a week and am expected to know the history of emoticon usage on RCMB. Oh, woe is me!
A million and one.
It's my opinion that your assertion in the previous post was asanine. You think my way of saying that is unoriginal? Arrest me and throw me in the slammer then. That's a capital offense from what I hear.
And FWIW, I wish you were right.

It's a must to prevent the other program from going nuts on a kid in this period leading up to signing day. You don't want them to know one of theirs is wavering because they'll do their best to persuade him to stay. Conversely, if they don't know the kid is looking around, he can sign on signing day and it's too late for the other guys to contact him. This is what happened to Chuck last year in South Bend with two or three guys and I fully expect to see at least that many (if not more) this year given ND's horrible record and Chuck's promising every recruit that he'll start from day 1.

CNN usually gets its scoop here.
Seriously though, I have seen PLENTY of national headlines break here before the mainstream media

Two things I was thinking about :
1. I recall hearing about Myles White's brother possibly taking a T&F scholarship and playing football as a preferred walkon. Did his brother decide to come to MSU, and run and play football?
2. A while ago there was a lot of talk about not bringing kids in for official visits during the season. Is that just his track record? Is that how he did it at cincy too? I was thinking maybe he wanted to try and let the construction on the DD get well underway so that he would have something to show kids beside pictures?
Just Wondering?

This has been confirmed, though we have a lot of unofficial visits during the season.
has stated that he feels that he has more time to spend with the recruit if the visits are in the off season.

VERY SIMILAR TO MSU???!!! Have you been there? Dude, my parents live there. East Lansing makes College Station look like a burnt-out parking lot. And that "warm weather" is great when you're doing two-a-days in August and it's 110 degrees with 85% humidity and mosquitoes and wasps the size of helicopters buzzing your face. At the moment, College Stations is grey, wet and cold. Not Michigan cold, but nobody's sunning themselves down there.
Not saying Smith might not opt for the Aggies for other reasons, but come on.

Agreed, the fan base seems very cool and loyal but CS is a **** hole. The biggest building in the area is the football stadium and it is in the middle of nowhere (between Dallas and Houston). EL is head and shoulders above CS.

Ahhh Big M, Paul/Jim/Dorsey never once mentioned Taylor Hill as being anything. They never responded to any posts about him leading up to the visit and only commented that he would be travelling to U of M after his MSU visit.
However I talk with one of the interns at SpartanMag, John Claya, frequently and I asked him the Thursday before Hill's visit about Hill and if he would start as a freshman.
He told me he didn't think that Hill would be a Spartan. I asked him why and he said Comp will post on it when Hill decides on a college but look at Rivals film and measureables and you will see why. I figured it was his weight and the fact he didn't play at linebacker once in his highlights.
Try and find me one highlight of Taylor Hill playing linebacker in high school??? The kid is a prospect and will need a few years before contributing. Yeah he is a 4* kid, does that mean everything??? No it doesn't. He has potential but that is a large portion of his ranking IMO. I would take Greg Jones, a 3*, over almost every guy rated above him last year.
The fact is that Taylor Hill is a 205 projected linebacker with 4.5 speed. How much lateral quickness will he lose with added pounds???
