I was really hoping to see either Jacquies Smith or Scruggs in green and white, and figured worst-case-scenario that we'd land one of the two.
To come up empty and know our hopes are fading with Perry....

I think a big factor on whether or not this class will be a success is attrition. So far it seems like has gone after quality guys that hopefully will keep their noses clean and remain academically elgible. This program deperately needs a solid foundation in order to build some depth that has been lacking for a long time. I think that one of the major downfalls of the JLS era was the enormous amount of attrition. That 2004 class was supposed to be a top ten class but it fell apart faster than JLS could slap himself.

Well said.
In the grand scheme of things, regardless of who signs from here on out, none of us will be able to say one way or another what kind of class this is/was until we look back years from now.

You could also say the same for the BW era as well. There was a fair amount of attrition for one reason or another during his tenure as well.

Spartan Magazine had a section like this earlier this year where they analyzed the last five recruiting classes and how they turned out it was interesting to see how all the players compared to their rankings and how some of the higher ranked guy I had never heard of because they had "Issues"

It's never fair to analyze a class -- good or bad, football or basketball -- until you have the hindsight to do so, which is why I've never understood why a typical MSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc. fan shouts from the rooftops when Rivals deems their Class a Top 15-20 or why they're ready to slit their throats if it's in the 30-40 range.
Frankly, there isn't much difference between a No. 20 and a No. 35 class, especially when you take the coaches and the kind of development/guidance they'll receive once they get on campus into consideration. That has been 's bread and butter -- he has the track record of a practice and game-day developer, vs. a living room legend. His classes will never blow you away numbers-wise, but I think we'll be more than pleased with the results when all is said and done. Keep the long-term in mind if the short-term has you down on Feb. 6.

Give me a group of well-coached, disciplined "3-stars" for 4-5 years over some 4-5 stars who are prima dona's, play sparringly and like to rob their fellow students any day of the week.
If can consistently win 8 games a year (regular season) then we'll see the better classes coming in. As of right now, I think we're getting a lot of solid contributors, maybe a few will break out or wash out, but I think we're developing a solid core of players that will be the backbone of some very good teams in 09 and '10.

I get what you are saying but to consistently win 8 games you are going to need a lot of good talent. The Big 10 is very competitive now.

I guess this could also be the huge get...he was on campus weekend of 1/19.
Connor Bradford - Football Recruiting
But still questionable as a HUGE get. But a flop from UCLA could be big news. 6'5", 270 is HUGE.
Also, maybe we pulled Scruggs offer because Perry committed and he is the HUGE commit.

I don't follow recruiting very close, but just read the last few pages here. I see Corey Johnson is a 3 star prospect. Anyone know his status as far as has he visited MSU, been offered, being actively pursued by the staff?

Heard Sims 2nd hand info from a source that talked to a family member of Sims and said there is no way Sims will pick MSU and hasn't given any thought to wanting to go here. He wants to go out of state, possilby UNC, but the draw to go to U of M could be there as well. His father works for U of M.

well he did win WR MVP down at the nike combine. I think he would have offers, but his grades suck. I don't think he's as hard a worker as rojo either.

i'm positive as paul or matt said it was him a week ago. They were backers, but are not anymore as he has been banned for a few months now.

Awfully strange that he'd visit a school he's not interested in as many times as he has.
