Hey, sometimes the light goes off on your dashboard, but everything's fine. All I'm saying is if we're after two equal players, one named Yourhighness and the other named Fred, I want the latter. As it is, we don't have a choice, so welcome aboard, Yohigh.

But why should a kid's name have anything to do with it? That's something he cannot control, so why "punish" him for it?

But you don't understand, if he was white and had a million dollars in his hand and was the queen of england and could prove that the moon landing was real and dewey DID defeat truman, Bruce still wouldn't want him on his team if there was a kid named John that also had a million dollars in his hand and was the queen of england and could prove that the moon landing was real and dewey DID defeat truman.

So you see he's not a bigot, he's not a bigot because of hyperbole. Don't you get it.

imagine this scenario for perry:

he knows he wants to be close to home, so even though he is flirting w/ usc and miami, he already knows its between msu and um. he goes to um, and is not blown away by shredriguez or um in general, maybe he doesn't get that warm-tingly. maybe he knows where he wants to go, has an in-home with MD with both parents there and says "you know, coach...i think i want to be at MSU."

not saying that's the way it has gone or will go down, or that he is who the orange is, but i'm just saying. you don't know what is going through the mind of a recruit. not everybody bolts to the "premier" programs.

also, if everybody was discounting when perry said "and that's what i'm going to play there for" at the banquet, then why is everybody so quick to give up when he lists msu 4th (in a um interview, no less)

anyway, this is just me being wishful, but at the same time, i have been in sales for a long, long time, and if nothig else, i have the ability to read people, and what i'm reading from perry from afar is that, well, all may not be what it seems.

How about you ease up with the name-calling? That's a pretty serious thing to accuse someone of. I never said anything about race. You're the one making that connection.

Do you have any kids? What are their first names? All I've said is you've got to wonder about parents who would name their kid Yourhighness. I think I'll stand by that statement. The people I can think of with similar names are pretty ****ed up.

I think that's obviously a fair point. I'm just saying it gives one pause. Unless one is out to blindly defend one of the only three verbals we've gotten since the bowl game, (maybe). Clearly this kid wasn't plan A. But if he signs, I'll support him, just like I did Sirderean right up until he got suspended for the bowl game.

I take your point, BBA. But, before you trivialize the Clinton's bigotry, read this from one of the most perceptive and intelligent political commentators in America, Christopher "God Is Not Great" Hitchens: see It should be no surprise that the Clintons are playing the race card. - By Christopher Hitchens - Slate Magazine

I don't agree with the premise of his book, God Is Not Great (in fact, the whole premise is misleading and sophomoric, unusual for CH), but his political ear is well tuned.

Why is this thread turning into a race/political debate?

Thanks for the link, interesting read. My Clinton example was an isolated one, I find them very calculating, and I find their comparison of Obama to Jackson sickeningly cynical, (there's some alliteration for you!).

Sorry, I'll stop talking about politics, race, and parenting. I wouldn't want to waste any space in a 300-page thread about the twenty kids we'll be able to sign.

I thought I read on here that he was supposed to visit last weekend, but the coaches called him and told him that they had just received a linebacker commit so they no longer had room for him.

True, which is why we're all assuming the "orange" almost has to be Morgan.

Are any of our recruits from divorced families? Because I don't want anyone coming from a divorced family because you know, bad parenting. You never know when they'll mug some one after a party.

No, that wasn't my point. I love to talk about race. Remember, it was Bill Clinton that told us all we need to have a national discussion about race. I'm just following through.

My only point that the slander wasn't about the "fairy tale" comment. That's all. I understood your premise quite well and thought it was a fair point to make. You made it clear: Hey, the kid could be the greatest, but . . . . You wonder what the hell the parents are thinking. It's like the movie stars of the 60s that give their kids weird names "moonstruck" and the like or "zeible" (was that Frank Zappa?). Spare me.

As far as divorced kids, that's truly irrelevant. This is the "boy named Sue" genre of wonderments. Totally different.

Well we will soon have to open up a 2009 official recruiting thread .
