I understand where you're coming from but in each one of those example you gave you have to remember one thing, if the person being discussed is playing an "organized" sport whether it's Middle School, HS, College, etc. they have to have some degree of talent. If not, they're just on the team because teams can't cut players (some middle and high schools) or there was an open slot that needed to be filled and the kid will never see any playing time. So to assume and I use this term loosely that the kids has some skills and possibly some decent footwork is not a bad assumption. Just as in your statements:
he plays basketball so he can jump really well (he may not be the best jumper but he can probably jump higher than some and also probably has other skills that offset his lack of 'great' jumping)
or
hes tall so he'll be a good OL for sure (read the story of Michael Oher, starting LT for Ole Miss. Never played a down of football until his junior year in high school and is now the starting LT all because someone saw how tall and big he is - in 2 years he became a rivals top 100 and a 4 Star recruit)
or
he plays baseball so he must have really awesome hand eye coordination (maybe not awesome but has good hand eye coordination that can be improved)
or
hes on the track team so he can probably play the entire game w/o breaking a sweat (maybe not the entire game but I'm sure the person would understands the concepts of accelaration and pacing yourself)
So assumptions can be made, it's just the amount of value we put in the assumption.

that would be the only site to say the kid weighs 220, everything i have seen on him has him about 205.
on a side note does any site focus on big ten recruiting exclusively and rank classes etc?

In the same article Gardiner in his own words.. Describing himself Gardiner says "I'm not the biggest linebacker, but I have great speed and quickness. I'm a great athlete and not just some big guy that can't move. I have great agility, but I want to improve my overall strength and power."
a 6'2 220lb LB would not say something like "I'm not the biggest LB".

yes under his profile. it could be old. I am sure he has bulked up since and possibly has grown some. maybe not. the report could very well be wrong. i'm not sure we can prove it one way or the other.

The fact remains that he is undersized and that you are wrong. Steve Gardiner may very well be a good Big 10 player, but can he keep that speed with an extra 30 lbs on that frame?

I think it's safe to say that nicho isn't going to admit that he's wrong.

He would make the perfect bandit. Hey look I hope he is able to bulk up. People don't understand on here that you don't just bulk up easily. If bulking up was that easy then herzog would be Shaq.

Obviously he needs to get in the weight room, and add some strength and weight. Obviously a lot of quality programs think he's a quality D1 prospect. And obviously the guy is undersized and not 6'2 220, but some people just want to argue cough nicho cough.

not the 4.44 speed, if that is correct. if he can still run a 4.5/4.6 with 30 extra lbs then that is fine. isn't the shuttle more accurate to the lbs speed since the lb isn't going to be running 40yds for anything? it is the quick burst, hitting the hole for a blitz, moving laterally, etc.

all depends on the person. some people do bulk up easily, some don't. we'll see with gardiner.

If he can bulk up to 230 and lose some speed, say a 4.6 instead of 4.44, then I'll be happy. I just don't understand why some people don't want to admit he's undersized, this is a fact.

i saw hoover play football as a junior at our homecoming game 2 years ago....i really only recognized him cause of his name (i sat next to his brother in physics as a junior in HS), and i didnt follow recruiting really at all until signing day back then, so i wasnt aware of him...he def seemed to be the biggest, fastest guy out there, but didnt really shock me as being D1 starting as a freshman talent -but then again i wasnt analyzing film
as far as basketball, idk at all...........our program sucks since Kelp left to coach the girls varsity and Schluter 'retired'.....Caleb Dean is the starting center, and was actually thinking of walking onto MSU (his father played football at MSU -and the kid lives like 2 blocks over from my moms house), but hes going to UM next year i think and im guess will try to walk on

i'll be like kgb for a second...how do you know that is a fact? how do you know that he is what they say he is? did you measure him and weigh him yourself?

Its absolutely a fact. We all saw what undersized means in the Big ten this year with Misch. It means special teams. Guy has some hard work ahead of him.

Your comment was silly. you said Dantonio was recruiting kids with high character, something you ABSOLUTELY have no information on. Stick to facts.

I watched some tape of Dean, the dude looks more like 6'6 than 6'8, and didn't seem very athletic. What year did you graduate from Novi? I "dated" a few of the 03 ladies.

facts: dantonio said that is what he is targeting and going to go after. Until proven otherwise I will assume that all guys dantonio has gotten are of good character. dantonio is a little more credible than your opinion

Fact: at the Scout camp in Pittsburgh last summer, Gardiner was measured at 6.'05 and 203 lbs. Fact: 6'0.5 203 is undersized for the Big 10. Opinion: you like to argue more than I do, which is impressive.

yea from what ive seen, he still hasnt grown into his body -very awkward at times, just like herzog, but a few inches shorter . hes a pretty good dunker for a big guy, and the best big man Novi has had since Schram
