I think what will sell Um to smith in the end is the QB's UM has lined up after Henne. Foles is good but isn't coming with name recognition that mallett is. Just from scouring the internet it doesn't appear as well that Foles is calling these guys and recruiting for MSU at the same level as Mallett is. Could be wrong just my opinion.
all that being said I think... Gray to MSU with Demens, Perry and Smith To UM, and Pannel to PSU. But more then likely I am wrong on all of them.

Have you not followed the last couple weeks of his recruitment?

Might as well add Demens to that list too. It looks like the Perry and Pannell are the only ones we have a shot at right now.

Now tell me what factor aside from PT clearly favors MSU. Tell me why you think Smith has made his top priority PT. He hasn't been inconsistent at all- he has been a UM fan his whole life for God's sakes. Your just mad the early PT argument isn't going to win out.

I think the other argument in favor of MSU is that Smith has been their #1 target all along at WR, whereas he seems to have been an afterthought for UM. Would you want to go to the school that has coveted you since Day 1 or do you want to go to the school that has had you as a Plan B/C the whole time?

Goddammit, Ozy, will you quit forcing me to have to agree with Big M?
Even if early PT is Smith's #1 factor, that still doesn't mean he would come to MSU over UM. And to be honest, that speaks well of Smith. I'm sure Carr has said to him, and he probably means it, that "You will have every chance to play early." All that means is that if you really work hard and are a total bad ass and can beat other, more senior guys out, you can play early. And Carr can point to Manningham and show that he is not just giving lip service. And the reason that it speaks well of Smith, is because it would mean that he has the confidence to feel that he can beat out other guys, and if he doesn't beat them out, then he needs to work harder. Honestly, that's what I want in a guy at MSU. I don't want a guy who says, "You know, I'm going to MSU because I don't think I'm good enough to earn early playing time somewhere else." We can be a little more objective than these kids, the coaches, and their families. We might know it's not realistic. But you can't blame a kid for having the confidence that he can beat out top notch guys.
I used to think that we had a shot at this top recruit or that top recruit because we could offer early playing time. But time after time after time, that doesn't happen. If realistic playing time was motivation for top kids, then schools like MSU, NC State, Arizona, and a host of other mid-level BCS schools would be the ones with the Top 10 recruiting classes. Instead, it's the schools that can offer the least chance for realistic playing time that get the best kids.

He wasn't at all an afterthought- he was offered early in Spring and was given the complete red carpet treatment at camp and on his last visit. The only reason you're saying that is because of the whole #1 jersey deal. That's it.

UM has upped their press on him since they got Stonum. They direct their efforts to Stonum, get him, and then move that energy towards Smith.
I just see Fred Smith becoming another Carl Tabb at UM--a talented kid that languishes behind some people his whole career. He could go elsewhere and be in the 2-deep the second he steps on campus, but apparently wearing that UM jersey means too much to the kid and his family.
I do find it comical that the UM players/recruits that are trying to sway him are openly ripping MSU and they have no problem passing that along to reporters. Talk about ego.

What proof do you have of that? UM has been on him hard since the Spring. Provide some proof.
Oh and you're UM recruits talking trash about MSU comment- Two comments. One, I guarantee you recruits do that all the time, including MSU recruits- they're just kids. Two, Beaver was out of line for putting those quotes out into the public, no doubt.
One more thing- Spartan Mag had a nice not so subtle recruiting pitch at Smith today. Laughable but predictable- Dorsey's been doing it for years and even admitted as much to me once.
And re: your Carl Tabb comment..I love how you guys hype up recruits but then automatically assume they aren't good enough to play at UM. Smith is a solid 4 star recruit that UM wants badly, bottom line. Yeah there will be competition, but if he's as good as MSU people think, he'll play at UM. Maybe he won't play as early, but he'll play.
And your comment about "apparently wearing that UM jersey means too much to him and his family" is laughable and full of bitterness. This board applauded Green when he went to his childhood school even though UM offered him much more PT. Heck even I said good for him. Not to mention the fact that Izzo CLEARLY didn't pursue Green as hard as UM has with Smith. But now you're acting like PT should trump a childhood favorite? Hypocrite much Ozy?
Just admit it- your posts today are just you being pissed off that he's going to UM...nothing more.

I find it hard to believe that this is true, but merely a ploy by someone in the media.

It's from Beaver's site. Beaver is an idiot in many ways and putting those statements in public is just the latest example.

Some family. Former QB & Alum claims his school back-doors kids in who are, well, slightly less than smart.
Star RB calls him out in the paper, claiming he isn't a "Michigan Man" and that he he wishes he never went to UM.
Current coach calls another coach "arrogant" & "elitist"
That's one hell of family you got going on there.

So you think Smith was talking about relationships between old alumni and the current team? Really?

I'm not pissed he is going to UM. You know why? Because I will be happy with the kids that want to come to MSU. The ones that meet Dantonio, talk to the staff, see the changes being made, see the opportunities and want to be a part of things are the only ones I want to see in Green & White. If you don't want to be a part of that and aren't hyped for that challenge, then go somewhere else.
The whole "Smith is Plan B" argument comes from how Stonum gets #1, Stonum gets the red carpet rolled out, Stonum gets all the attention (with Smith getting some, but not near as much), and then UM moving on to Smith. It's like a guy who is systematically going after different girls that he knows. He sees the one he wants the most, wines her, dines her, nails her and then focuses his energies on the next one. Does that make sense?
Smith will play at UM, but look at who is ahead of him: Arrington (who will be back), Webb, Hemingway, Savoy, Mathews, Bass, Babb and Clemons...along with Stonum and possibly whomever else comes in this class. The playing time most likely won't be there until his 3rd season. I wasn't denigrating the skills of Carl Tabb, I was just saying that he was a talented kid that was stuck behind a bunch of other talented players. If he had gone elsewhere, he could have seen the field earlier/more often.
The playing time issues with football and basketball are completely different and that has been expounded on time and time and time and time and time and time and time again here. You simply cannot compare the two. Green could play 10 minutes/gm his first season of play and still make an impact. Do you really think Smith will see the field the first season that he isn't redshirt when he is at UM? I think there is too much talent ahead of him to get him in there that first year he's eligible.

Hard to say. By using MSU basketball as an example, yes. MSU basketball is a family of the current and former players. I was just applying that definition to UM.
Disagree?
