So how long will Dantonio keep chasing pipe dreams like Demens and Perry? He'll have three verbals in December and he'll have to start going after Brian Kelly's leftovers.

Dantonio is not a stupid man, he knows what he is doing. Unlike cowboy, he has recruited MSU before.

Rivals Ticker is now saying that Sanni has two leaders, ILL and IOWA.

Exactly. Let's just hope MSU shows the world something beginning on September 1. If we have another horrid season (3-5 wins), it is going to be tough again next year to recruit. If MSU shows something and can win 6-7, we will be able to snag some decent kids in the fall and end up in decent shape. We have to show something though.

Point taken...I was just wondering if he commented that facilities were better, coaches were better, better tradition, etc. or what was the determining factor. I realize it's hard to measure up to a Nebraska (right now anyway), but losing these in-state kids is a tough pill to swallow...

From a friend of mine that's a Nebraska alum, FWIW:

Sorry things aren't coming through. We are having a pretty good year. When we went through our coaching overhaul in '04 we got a really good recruiting staff. Prior to that, under Solich, I think we were one of the worst recruiting teams in the Nation. I feel your pain, bro.

This one hurts. I could understand him going to UM or programs like USC or OSU, but Nebraska?!? I know that they are a better program then us, but come on Nebraska?!?
This recruiting class is going to suck. We're going to go 0 for 5 with the instate prospects and we haven't done well at all in Ohio this year. But still, it all matters about what we do on the field this year.

Dantonio needs to change up and start asking for the verbal on the visit. These kids are going home and setting up other visits and those schools are doing the hard sell and they are landing kids at an amazing clip. MSU has 3 verbals after several summer camps and visits. Not good. It took JLS way too long to learn how to recruit in the Big 10, I hope this staff figures it out fast.

and if they don't give it, we pull the offer?
C'mon man, you know he is doing everything he can to get these kids to commit. He just doesn't have much to sell yet because our facilities (Duffy) are a mess right now and he hasn't coached a game here yet. The only thing even getting us visits right now is his good name, but that is not enough right now.

the thing the stinks is that its in state kids leaving so early and not giving MSU a chance. Those out of state schools are smart. They want the answere now knowing that MSU could have a good year and the kid may then want to play for MSU. Coming in 2nd for Ohio kids is understandable right now. I wish more kids would wait until December or so.

NU is not exactly the bottom of the barrell of CFB.
THere are quite a few things NU has going for it that attracts recruits:
Tradition
Five MNCs sitting in the trophy case
Three Heisman trophy winners
Very supportive fan base
Great academic support (lead the Nation in Academic All-Americans)
Superior strength & conditioning facilities
State of the art locker room and training facilities (for rehab, etc.)
A stable coaching staff
An NFL-type offense
History of good palyer development
I could go on. Anyway, there are far worse places Gray could've picked. We're glad he's N.
