You could always count on MSU locking up a few top players from MI every year, no matter the record. Can't count on that any longer.
Check out Rivals and Scout. We are in on hardly anyone of substance we have a chance of landing. 5 and 4 stars don't even look in our direction, and 3 stars have us well below the others, for the most part. If they did, they committed elsewhere, except Hoover.
This is going to get much worse before it gets better.
|
BALONEY! It is about winning games not about who has the most 4 star recruits. Dantonio will not be evaluated by how many top recruits he gets, but how many games he wins. We have enough talent on this team to compete with anyone on our schedule. When players start seeing what is going on at MSU, they will start being interested. Since we haven't played a down under MD, our recruiting spiel rings hollow. Why a defensive player like Demens, wouldn't want to play for a defensive guru like Dantonio, is beyond me. But if he has a chance to see our defense in the fall, he might have more interest.
P.S. JLS and Perles were average recruiters at best. will do a better job, when all is said and done.

Last I checked, Top 100 recruits haven't seriously considered us since Saban, but Dantonio comes in and gets a lot of interest from Joseph Barksdale, RoJo, and Jonas Gray.

Gray bolts the state. Demens is likely on his way out, too. Pannell is probably heading to Penn State. This is crazy.
These Detroit kids need to wake up. State is a 90-minute drive away, which is just far enough to get away from home and just close enough for their families to drive up and see them.
In one sense, I'm happy some of these guys are heading out of state and not to Big Blue -- but in another sense, what does this all say about MSU and the way these Detroit kids see it?
The Spartans are getting treated like a MAC level team by Detroit kids and families. This is probably because Detroit has a giant Blue 'M' stamped on it and all these people hear about State is negative stuff from the Detroit papers and TV stations.
Nebraska has tradition over State? Really?
Oh, so now we're going back to the Tom Osbourne-Tommie Frazier days?
Give me a break. The only recent tradition the Huskers have cultivated is getting their asses handed to them by Big 12 South teams on a regular basis. I personally can't wait until Oklahoma and Texas each make 85 new girlfriends the week they play the Huskers and their over-rated coaching staff.
So, I take offense at these guys bolting the state just because they view ScUm as the only Big Ten option in it. That's bull. And when Jonas Gray is getting smothered in the backfield on nothing but sprint draws against Texas, A&M or Oklahoma, maybe he'll realize it.
Also, Callahan has a long history of being a real jerk -- both on the field and off. Does anybody not realize this guy will jump at the NFL if the league ever comes calling again?
|
Barksdale "led" Coach D on?? WTF is this, high school dating? It's ****ing recruiting. If you can't handle these kids "leading on" your coach, then you'd better stop paying attention. Every single kid leads on 3-4 coaching staffs every year. Quit whining.
Maybe the Detroit kids don't care about going to a school that is close to home. Gray and Demens wouldn't have gone all the way to Nebraska if they actually cared.
Of course MSU football will get blasted by the Detroit media. WE SUCK! You don't get respect when you're going 4-8 more often than you have a winning season.
Hell yeah Nebraska has more tradition than MSU. If you go all the way back to the 60s, then its a different story. However, kids don't care about the 60s. And, yes, Nebraska has had much more success than us recently. They've played in two NC games in the past decade!
Jonas Gray will not be getting smothered. NU has brought in four 4 star OLinemen this year alone. I don't think we've brought in four 4 star OLinemen in the past 5-6 years.
You don't know what Callahan will do.
Look, I don't like these guys leaving as much as anyone. But you're looking through the green colored glasses BIG TIME. The college football world doesn't revolve around East Lansing. We've been downright awful recently and kids want to win. So don't be so offended when they pick programs that are much closer to winning.
Once we start WINNING, the recruits will come.

If Pryor wasn't a highly rated Basketball player, I would agree. But I still think it might be worth it to recruit him hard, especially if we let Izzo do the bulk of it.

Dandridge says his leaders in order are Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, Purdue and Colorado. I like that we are #1, but kids like Dandridge and Ray are the types that we should have locked up by now.

Having Gray and Demons go out of state to NU really hurts. Seems like the effort is there, but the staff does not get the commit early enough and the longer it drags out the more likely the kids are going to choose another school. I had hoped the new staff would really bring in a lot more big time defensive talent, but looks like they have to prove themselves in the Big Ten first. Just a frustrated Spartan.

Well, are you willing to bet that he is coming to State, because I wouldn't after he has repeatedly said he wants to go to the same school as Gray. Also, he is supposedly friends with Compton who also committed to NU.

UM can be his leader all they want, this kid is going to Nebraska. If Demens went to UM do you think that Gray would reconsider?

IMO there'd be no chance. Maybe there'd be a slight chance if Cox didn't commit, but scUM is full at RB. Either way, I think Gray is upset about the late offer.
Like I've been saying throughout the thread, package deals rarely happen. Demens pretty much blew off the package deal in the latest article. (I'd quote him, but it's premium)

I just read the latest article on Rivals regarding Demens and it looks like he is Michigan bound.
