Does he want to play both and is Fred Smith going to do both?

I know that Fred Smith has talked to Izzo about playing both, but he's at least going to be honest that minutes are at a premium. Mr. Hueter here...I have not heard anything about him wanting to play both.

To be honest, there are probably a LOT of recruits that play both football and basketball. There just aren't many that are very good at both.

One of the things that sold the Spartans on Hueter is his footwork. The staff was able to observe him not only this fall on the football field, but on the hardwood as well. Hueter is very nimble on his feet for a person his size. He averaged 17-points a game and double-digit rebounds last year as a junior for North Branch.

Channel 12, WJRT out of Flint covered his signing. He seems pretty happy to be a part of the Spartan Family. Says the offer came on Saturday.

I just heard Karsch on 97.1 talking about this, so I wanted to pass on this article. Sorry if its a repost, I did a search and found nothing.

Former UM coach helps North Branch player find Spartans

GENESEE COUNTY
THE FLINT JOURNAL FIRST EDITION
Wednesday, February 06, 2008By Mark Spezia
mspezia@flintjournal.com • 810.766.6184

Zac Hueter did not give much more than a passing glance at the news that new University of Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez had let all of the school's current assistants go except one.

Rodriguez announced the move Dec. 20, just two days after the highly-sought North Branch offensive tackle verbally committed to Central Michigan.

Little did Hueter realize, however, the impact it would have on his future.

Rodriguez's actions ignited a chain of events that ended with Hueter changing his commitment to the Spartans Monday. He'll sign today.

"This was not an easy thing because I had already committed to Central, and there were a lot of things to think about," said Hueter, who had picked Central over Western Michigan. "However, when I visited Michigan State this past weekend and met with (coach) Mark Dantonio, I knew it was the best place for me."

After getting the blessing of his family, Hueter contacted Dantonio and accepted a scholarship offer.

Hueter's saga began when Andy Moeller - one of UM's dismissed assistants - contacted MSU's staff and urged them to take a closer look at him. The 6-foot-7, 290-pound Hueter had caught the eye of Moeller, the Wolverines' former offensive line coach, at the UM's summer camp.

"He was like 'you've got to take a look at this guy,' " Hueter said.

Hueter had sent a tape of an early-season game to MSU in September, but little came of it, meaning he was more than surprised to hear from the Spartans.

"I was shocked because I guess they were not impressed enough by the first tape they saw," Hueter, who only began playing offensive tackle his senior season. "Michigan State's offensive line coach (Dan Roushar) contacted me, and I sent him a basketball tape and a football tape from later in the season this time."
Hueter was even more shocked when the Spartans' coaching staff wasted little time offering him a scholarship.

"They plan to red shirt me my first year, but I have to be ready for more intense practices," he said. "I'll be doing a lot of running this spring and summer and will continue my weightlifting program. I plan to be in the best shape of my life mentally and physically so I'm not shocked by anything.

"Hopefully, I'll be ready to compete for a starting position the next year."

"Hueter, who only began playing offensive tackle his senior season."

I can imagine there is probably a huge upside to a guy with size like him, who has just started to learn the OT position. His size reminds me of a guy we had here a while back named Flozell Adams. I bet we will be seeing some big things from him in years to come...

A guy that size, has only played one year of tackle, and plays SF in on the basketball team? HUGE upside.

That would be great. Saban told SI that Flozell was like having your own road grader.
