ya i think this every ****ing day...like wtf seriously...but i got HO'ed out over it because everyone was saying they'll be "just like JLS recruits" all stars and all character/discipline flaws included...i guess we'll see how that really turns out in 4-5 years

Unfortunately, we can't take JUCOs as easily as they can anymore.

I asked before and got no response, so I'll ask again...who in their class excites you? Which one of their 4 star recruits gets your motor going?

I think most people would say Gray, but his eligibility is the big question. People are looking at the stars and not the players. I wouldn't trade their class for ours, to be honest.

I wonder how many of those players Minnesota signed will be there at the beginning of fall camp in August. My guess is not all of them.
Furthermore, Jonathan Dandridge (three star) was evaluated by MD & Co. and was NOT pursued. MSU was after other corners - Adams and Robinson and got both of them. So from what I've read (from SM) Robinson (two star) was more coveted by MD than Dandridge (three star).

I goes to show the trend in college FB, that a guy with NFL ties can pull in players. It has yet to be seen if they are pulling in these players according to NCAA rules. See Pete Carrol for reference.

Pittman and Simmons are both 4 star JUCOs that are already on campus. 4 JUCOs in all signed during the early period.

Even objectively speaking, I wouldn't either.

I know, I was referring more about the five other four star guys they rec'd commits from.
Some four stars, while they look great on signing day, never amount to squat. Like that TE that went to Neraska Tumblerine or somthing, Bobby Jones and Hugh D'Imperio. We've had our share at MSU. I know this is the exception rather than the rule, but its seem like the this circumstance is more common among JUCO's that sign on at middle / lower tier BCS programs like a Minnesota and MSU.

Well, short answer is that they took a bunch of borderline qualifying kids. Let’s see how many make it in or are Prop'ed. U-Minn also gave their new coach carte blanche (sp) to recruit whomever, troubled kids, dumb kids, whoever. Lots of risk in that class. Kind of reminds me of Saban's early classes....kind of needed that talent influx due to the extreme lack of talent on the squad. State is not in the desperate need of talent.
Also: As duval mentioned above, lots of JUCO's in that class. Their star rankings can push a class ranking up.

Exactly, plus given Brewster's ability to turn a bowl team into a 1-11 team, I'm not too worried about Minnesota. Trust me, as a non- MSU fan, I'm much more worried about increased competition from MSU and than I am about Minnesota and Punky.

This is just one of the reasons why I don't understand how people can be so excited about our recruiting class.

I'm excited about it because it has outed so many d-bags on this board who are willing to throw players, who haven't even set foot on the field, under the bus.

The reason people can be excited is that if you look beyond the star based rankings and really evaluate the players you will see that not only are many of our players flat out better, but they are also more likely to qualify academically and once they do qualify, will stay here for 4 or 5 years unlike the players that Minnesota took.
Keep in mind that they have 4 players (3 of them being 4 stars) that will be gone in two years. As we saw with JLS, you can't build depth in a successful program by taking that many guys who will be "short timers".
Also, there are lots of guys on their team who we passed the staff felt we had better recruits at their position already or we felt didn't have a chance to qualify. Those players include 4 stars like Marquise Gray and Brandon Green and 3 stars like Kevin Whaley and Jonathan Dandridge.
In conclusion, if you look at their seven 4 star commits, there isn't much to be impressed about. Three of them are JUCOs who will be gone just as quickly as they make a contribution. One of them may have trouble qualifying. Another we decided to pass on. That leaves them with two remaining 4 stars. Sam Maresh is from Minnesota so it isn't a shockingly amazing victory that they got his commit. The only commit that could possibly be considered impressive is them getting Keanon Cooper out of Texas. Beyond that, there are an awful lot of pitfalls and traps at the top of Minnesota's class.

RECRUITING: The Rivals.com list of top 20 recruiting classes is filled with familiar heavyweights. Miami, LSU, Florida, Notre Dame, Texas and Minnesota. Minnesota? That's not a misprint. Coach Tim Brewster, a tireless recruiter and boisterous presence, used a sparkling new stadium that will open in 2009 and the opportunity to play right away to sell recruits on the Twin Cities. The approach appears to have worked beautifully for his first true recruiting class since taking over in January 2007. Rivals.com ranked the Gophers' class the 17th best in the nation. Minnesota is coming off the worst season in school history (1-11)

JFC, will it ever end? Let me know if you get that job evaluating High School talent for college coaches. Until that time, just admit you don't know jack s*** and STFU.

I'm sure that their brand new state of the art stadium got a lot of the 4-star players.

It's nice to know you've been paying enough attention to form your own education opinion re: this topic.

Ok, I'll bite. If this is one reason, what are the others? I figure you must have 2 or 3 others, so please, do answer me. I am very curious.
