The speed in this class is outstanding

(Grabbed this from a poster on SpartanMag, not sure if it has been mentioned here)

9 players in this class have been clocked BELOW a 4.5 in the 40, according to Rivals. That is the best in the Big Ten and better than:
  • Alabama (7)
  • ND (8)
  • Florida (5...as many as 7 since 2 skill guys don't have times)
  • Miami (7...could be more due to lack of times for some guys)
  • Oklahoma (5)
  • Georgia (6)
  • USC (4)
  • FSU (5)
  • LSU (3...could be a couple more due to lack of times listed)
  • Clemson (6)
  • UCLA (8)
  • Texas (5...could have a couple more due to lack of times listed)
  • Colorado (4)
That is EVERY TEAM IN THE RIVALS TOP 15 (UM and OSU are in there too).

Yup. I know. That's what makes it amazing. Talking to fans from the SEC, they think their teams are God's gift of speed. I wish OSU would have shut their face with a NC win but it wasn't meant to be.

Another thing to note is that these guys aren't all like the JLS Carl Grimes "5'8 155" kind of athletes. Winston is 6'1 220 and runs a 4'4.

We've got size AND speed in this class. Solid is the best word to describe it and I gotta say I like it.

Speed + Size + Good Coaching = Good thing happening in East Lansing.

Glad to see it happening.

OSU's players had better 40 times than LSU's players. Speed in a timed event is much different than game speed and quickness.

I guess SEC fans were right. We won't stand a chance against their teams...

Wow..if true I find it hard to believe that we have more recruits at 4.5 speed than any other team. I just doesnt sound right. More than USC, LSU etc??

I'd be very wary of relying too much on Rivals 40 times.

No, not completely of course.

But the problem with 40 times are that they are completely unregulated. Some are electronic times from Nike camps. Others are handtimed in a H.S gym. Big big differences.

I look at it like the Star system --- a general guidline that may be inaccurate at times.
But generally, the guys with the better times should be faster than the guys with the lesser times.

*
Also, isn't the speed in the 40 one of the components used in the star ranking system used by Rivals?

Fast is good, but there are a couple of other skills the recruits need too. Some recruiting people think this class is a little under rated, we'll know in 2 or 3 years.

I would be interested to know how many OL, DL, K, and TE that MSU brought in compared to those other schools.

Michigan has 5 and Cissoko and Feagin don't have times listed, so they could make it 7.

Lateral speed is almost as important too.

Overall strength and size is good, the kids may grow another inch or two, from what I hear burrell is now about 6'2.

I love our secondary class, btw, 3 very solid prospects + a burner in trenton robinson.
