Could Gardiner be moved to safety?
Green and White.com suggested it and I'm intrigued by the possibility. He has the size and speed right now to play safety. And we just lost two in Key and Warrick....just a thought.

I say very doubtful. Burrell and Trawick were brought in to fill in for those two. He was recruited as a LB as well. When Dino talked about him he compared him to AJ Hawk. He said Hawk wasnt the biggest or fastest LB in their class but he was simply the best. I gathered that MD feels the same way about Gardiner.

If he is the best...why did he wait so long to offer him?

That was his quote about AJ Hawk. We offered in early December, which is not too late. All I know is what Dantonio said (implied). Williams and Gardiner will have a chance to play this season, those guys are probably 1A and 1B.

There are post-signing day quotes from Coach Tressel where he says that Gardiner is "truly a linebacker".
Tressel: Linebackers $

Thanks for the link AA.....
It was just a misguided thought on my part....God knows he has the jaw for LB. Looks like someone implanted a steel anvil in there.......

Let Dantonio be Dantonio. He'll play where ever the coach wants him, Green and White be damned

down here is Columbus tons of fans are very upset that OSU did not get him.. His HS is sending 5 players to play college football and his coach said that he will be "impossible" to replace..From everything i have heard he is a great kid and a very smart and gifted player. He knows that he needs to add some pounds and seems like a kid that will take this chance he recieved and do everything he can to make it work. Great pick up for State

almost forgot, his HS played Cincinnatti Saint X (one of the most dominate Division 1 teams in Ohio football year in and year out) in the semis of the state playoffs. Steve was voted the BEST player on the field by the Columbus Dispatch. Keep in mind that Ohio HS football is one of the most talented and best states in the country, so to get this recognition in the State semis is very impressive

He had something like 175 tackles against terrific competition. That is flat out amazing.

That team was absolutely stacked. Mike Martin, Zack Stoudt, Gardiner, the WR going to OSU (TE maybe?) I think they had 6 guys go D1 this year. Amazing.
