I think we should try to convince him that our deal is better, but if he can't, then take him and just redshirt him.

Personally, I'm leery that he's only received offers from Portland State, St. Francis, Buffalo, and Miami (Ohio). There must be a reason.

I am going with MD's opinion of him. he would take him if he thought it worth it...it would also reduce our schollies for 2009 class...which I think we can do better.

Yeah, that's the point I was trying to get across. We are already working with a limited number of scholarships for 2009 and so we figure to be a bit more selective (including late 2008 additions). People on the board love to talk about stocking up on OL recruits, but it doesn't appear that many major programs are beating down this kid's door for a commitment. As for the comment that maybe he is just unknown, I find that very unlikely since he camped at both USC and UCLA.

looks undersized and slow. Maybe a greyshirt or prefered walkon offer if you ask me, but I'm not MD.

Thought this was odd given the fact that the Scout article came out on 4/11 and this was dated 3/28
Walk-on news - Scott Wolf inside USC
Quote:
USC might add offensive guard Abe Markowitz from Punahou High School in Hawaii to its roster for next season. Markowitz (6-3, 275) was accepted by the admissions office Monday and will visit USC on Friday.
Michigan State offered him the chance to greyshirt, or enroll in the spring semester.

It's a good school. They are a private school and in the ILH. The ILH is the high school division made up of private schools on Oahu. In Hawaii, the private schools are the elite in sports. Punahoe is the elite of the ILH in terms of academics. Their campus is pretty nice. St. Louis is the elite of football.
I went to Damien Memorial (ILH) my first two years of high school.

Unless he had family in the midwest, this decision makes sense. His family is probably well off considering he went to Punahoe. I knew a few people from Hawaii when I was at MSU and some of them struggled because of culture shock. The west coast is still a 5 hour flight, but it is culturally more inline with the diversity that the islands bring.
