More bad recruiting analysis from College Footbal News.
Scout.com: 2008 Big Ten Recruiting - What It All Means
9. Michigan State
The class is heavy on ... Wide receivers. Last year was about the lines, and this year is about boosting the passing game with five receivers brought in, led by Fred Smith. TE Tyler Hoover is a huge target at 6-8 and around 250 pounds, and he should eventually be a go-to target. The running game wasn't ignored with three good prospects led by the very, very fast twosome of Glenn Winston and Caulton Ray.
The player who'll someday be a really big deal ... LB Steve Gardiner
The player you might care about this year ...WR Fred Smith
What it all means to the real world of college football ... Head coach Mark Dantonio didn't have a full season to recruit last year and did better than he did this year. There weren't a ton of openings, but the defense was an afterthought without any sure-thing starters coming in. Finding a quarterback will be job one next year, and fortifying the defensive front seven will be part two. Basically, this needs to be a class to fit the system considering there's not a lot to get the rest of the Big Ten squirming.
I don't think this class is heavy on wide receivers. (Although I do think our roster is heavy on wide receivers.) We have 3 wide receivers by my count.
Hoover projects as a defensive end.
This class is better than last year's class.

I don't think our defense was an afterthought at all. Our secondary gets a huge boost with the talent and speed we have coming in. Hoover and i think eventually Jude will be a good DE pair. ya this guys full of it.

That's a really poorly written analysis for sure. Heavy on WRs? We take 3 WRs. 5 OL. 4 LBs. 4 DBs. 3 DL. Then they say WRs...way to do your research.

Think about it, the author goes to Rivals and/or Scout looks at a bunch of profiles and writes a story. I doubt he looked at videos, and he doesn't know that Hoover is a DE and an impact player there, then knocks the staff for not landing D players.
If you're going to do that bad a job, why bother?

I hope this person didn't get paid to write this "analysis."

at anyone who even looks at scout. They are a complete joke. Tyler a TE? Dantonio jokingly used that as evidence as why rating services have no clue, looks like he was spot on once again. Oh and Tyler is almost 275 now but scout won't know that until MSU releases its two-deeps in August.
The light on defensive players is the worst part. 11 of the 20 players play defense. If you add in OL then that makes 15/20 player who are on either line or play defense. Looks like we're heavy on defense and on the lines. What a ****ing joke. ANYONE who sends their money to that joke of a website should be castrated.

I agree that scout typically has better ranking for bball than rivals but their MSU coverage still sucks balls. And it always will.

I don't mind if critical analysis on this class, however, this guy should at the very least do his homework.
WR heavy?
Come on.

"The player who'll someday be a really big deal...CB Boubacar Cissoko"
This is just my opinion but I don't see him being the Bob Sanders type player many are making him out to be. A 5'8" CB with speed will still be at a disadvantage against a tall, physical, receiver like Calvin Johnson, Plaxico Burress, or even a Braylon Edwards.
I look forward to the future matchups between him and Fred Smith. Think Edwards vs. Jaren Hayes, and we all know how that turned out.

I like how Trenton Robinson is a RB, not a chance.
Hoover wasn't even that great of a TE in high school, which makes it more laughable.

Yeah, only because you used to get free Rivals at work.
