Why? Because both players really like us. Because it isn't uncommon for teams to take mulitple running backs in a season. Because we use a run heavy offense that requires at least two running backs to carry the load so there will be plenty of touches to go around for everyone.
Why SHOULDN'T we think we can land two top RBs? ESPECIALLY since both are in-state!

You know it's nice taking top notch RB's but don't you all think we should be getting some top notch o-lineman to go with them?

you do realize that we are VERY early in the recruiting process and YES, we are recruiting some quality linemen right now and if you haven't been paying attention, we've brought in some VERY good linemen in the past two classes. So the snide remarks are unnecessary. How about we enjoy the hard work by the staff rather than nitpick.

Yeah..I was a bit harsh. If you haven't looked at it yet, there is a great explanation of how OL recruiting works in another thread. I suggest checking it out. It will probably help answer your question.

It's not uncommon for a school to land 2 RB's in one class.
It is uncommon for a school to land 2 consensus top backs in one class, especially when they are from the same area.

That's true, but that doesn't mean we should give up on Larry Caper because we have "no shot".

I'd sell them on the "CJ Spiller/James Davis" idea of Thunder and Lightening.
If Jehuu gets drafted you can point out that your 2nd string RB was an NFL prospect. Several talented backfields have done extremely well from the perspective, including Cadillac Williams/Ronnie Brown and Reggie Bush/LenDale White

Caper will "likely" be a Spartan.

I would love to see that happen. I don't think that it is too far-fetched either. We are in a somewhat unique position to sell a two-back system from experience. A Baker/Caper duo would be down right scary in a couple years.
All things considered, I wouldn't get too confident about him being a SPartan after Baker makes it official, but it certainly is possible.

So I dont get slammed if this doesnt happen, "likely" was not my word, but the word of someone who would know much better than I.

The single best thing that could've happened this past season to help convince multiple high level running backs to come to state was the backup scoring 20+ TD's.
MD can simply lay out the stats and tell a top-shelf back, "You'll get the same shot as anyone else to be the number one back, but even if you don't earn the starting job, look what you can still do in our system." Any good back thinks he can beat out the guys ahead of him - in this case, even if said back doesn't do that in his first year, he knows he can still have a major, major impact. That's got to be compelling as hell.

If we get both......I will just be shocked. Stack these with our current crop of RBs...our growing WR group. With Foles and Maxwell coming up. Holy crap!

Not to mention 3 more seasons of Jones/Gordon at LB and the Oren Wilson/Antonio Jeremiah tandem at DT
Couple that with Adams, Trawick and Burrell combined with finding a MLB out of Rolf, Williams, Gardiner and watch out!
Wow, we might actually have a great team in a few years

I'd say Top 10. If you extend it down to Top 30 a lot of schools fit that criteria.

The best sell for this year in particular would be Darren McFadden/Felix Jones given that one will be a top 5 pick in April and the other will be in the 1st round as well.

As a forward thinking disciple of Tressel, Dantonio will find a way to use his best players. Dantonio already has this past season in the bag to show that multiple backs can and will carry the load for him.

If you look at how Darren McFadden and Felix Jones excelled at the tailback position together, it is scary to think how Caper and Baker would tear up the Big Ten with our offense. I think Caper should not be detered, but excited about joining the Big Ten's best offense.

But Caper and Baker aren't both going to be Top 10 and that is what he was equating his argument to.

What about a redshirt? There's a battle in fall camp, the winner plays, the next best redshirts? That's assuming that one would get PT against Jimmerson, Ray, Leggett and Winston. It would be pretty remarkable for them both to play as freshmen.
