How much of an attraction are MSU's facilities?
Where do we stand? In basketball, we have the Breslin and the 1.3 million dollar locker room? What kind of draw are our football facilities?
We've got an indoor practice facility, Perles pushed for that. I read where a WVU practice was cancelled due to weather. I wonder if schools like WVU, Cincinnati or Central even have indoor practice facilities? Indiana? Purdue?
I saw Hondo's videos of the new football building. Anyone who has done any lifting can appreciate good facilities, and ours will increase something like 9,000 sq ft to 17,000. Weight lifters looovvveee nice weight facilities, and football players are weight lifters. There's so much more, too. Offices, meeting rooms, memorials of past great Spartan players... Alright though, seems like I read awhile back that North Carolina's football building cost 50 million smackers!!! As great as ours will be, it costs 14 million by comparison. I doubt Michigan and tOSU have crummy facilities. Anyone know how this facility will compare and what kind of draw it might be for potential recruits?
Let's see, we've got the Smith center for academics. Anyone know how that compares?
What about stadiums? In your opinion, how much of an obstacle are the outhouse and the Horseshoe when we go head to head with those schools for recruits? Seems I read Minnesota's new stadium will only hold 50 thousand-ish. Rutgers will be in that range, too, and that's after their new upgrade.
I guess there aren't any schools that beat our campus. There is no way that MAC schools and schools like Cincinnati can compete with us in dazzling recruits with the riches of our football facilities. But, how do we compare with the elite programs? I read Nichols had been impressed with all the facilities at Oklahoma. Will this new football building have us on par?

in short, yes.
there will be a few ridiculous outliers. and FYI, scUM's facilities are a DUMP according to Jared McGaha, who took an official there last year after MD got hired by MSU.

See, that's great, that's the kind of insight I'm looking for. When we talk about recruiting, we talk about so many things: PT, the reputation, the coaches, the recruiters, the climate...and the facilities. All fans ever see are the stadiums, but the recruits, they see where they will live, where they will attend classes, where they will add that 15 lbs. of muscles, where they will practice when we get a bowl bid and the ground outside is hard as a rock... Glad to hear Michigan's facilities suck... well, I am...

Michigan's facilities are pretty good. Schembechler hall is a big all football building next to all the outdoor practice fields. I think they're building a new indoor facility just for football, as other teams were using the other indoor field.

couple of questions..
1. What is this new building they are putting together for MSU going to house? I saw something about locker rooms for football, etc...
2. Is the UM construction project just for the upgrade to the stadium or are they upgrading weight facilities, etc as well?

1. More class space for team meetings. Plus expansions to weight rooms training room, etc.
2. As far as I'm aware, the UM construction project is for the stadium alone (luxury boxes, becoming ADA compliant, etc) but nothing is being done to improve training and other facilities.

Isn't Dick Rod having them change that place up?

I thought Big M or someone was saying they were completely replacing equipment but I didn't hear anything about the space.

Yeah...I think they are selling old equipment and replacing it with new stuff. I believe that is the only improvements being made.

I saw the video of the Oregon facilities...unbelievable. Appeared to be more a spa than a football facility.

Busy today. Any of you guys know where this new football building puts us? I'm not necessarily looking for a numerical rank, though that would be nice. I'm just wondering if we are close to the UMs, OSUs, Oregons, Oklahomas... Will our facilities wow kids being recruited by top schools or are they only awesome and...average...?

Our facilities blow away Michigan's. The others, we are comparable to but probably not as good. I believe the only place that we have a leg up on these schools is the Clara Bell Smith Center.

Texas has nice facilities as well...
Player's lounge:
"Texas’ spacious and newly renovated players’ lounge features: four TV projectors, six flat screen TVs, four Xbox 360s, three PS2s, an AMX audio/visual system control, custom theater seats, sectional seats and recliners, new High Impact photos, new NFL Display, new wood and tile floors and a custom bar for serving meals."
Locker room:
"Texas' enormous locker room facility features 125 personalized eight-foot-tall open lockers, a spacious team meeting area, five flat screen TVs, new lounge area seating with game tables and its centerpiece, a three-dimensional, lighted 20-foot Longhorn on the ceiling."
20,000 sq foot weight facility:
I know a guy who has visited these facilities, and stated how amazing they really are.

Martin is spending big bucks to improve Schembechler Hall and rr has put in a new floor and replaced most if not all of the weight room equipment Carr's strength coach used.
MSU is catching up in football and is light years ahead of all but about 5% of D1 basketball.

Also a new indoor practice facility is being built where the soccer field was. A new soccer facility is being built farther from campus (near the tennis facility and the far side of the golf course).

I can answer number two, my dad works for one of the companies that is doing the construction on the stadium. I saw the blue prints for the project this weekend and they looked pretty nice, but it is for luxury boxes and becoming ada compliant with some other upgrades.

Spartan Stadium is a solid place to play, second tier though in size. The CBS Center is 2nd to none and with the additions to the Duff I would imagine that catches us up in that area. Overall we are much on par with or ahead of a majority of the D1 programs.

It is still in the top 26 stadiums in all of college football. Also, in the 20 year masterplan for the university, there are clear plans to create an upperdeck or upper bowl above the north endzone and to redo the east side of the stadium as well.

Well MSU needs to tap our Phil Knight and see if he can throw the Spartans a bone.

A kid from GA commits to LSU today based on this:
“Georgia had a very good chance,” he said. “ But LSU’s facilities are much better. And I was trying to get away from home a little bit.”
I guess the new MSU facilities are making an impact on the 09 recruits

We'd been talking about MSU's facilities comparatively in this thread.
This is the pure evil apparently going on in aa right now:
Multimedia Center
Unfortunately, I've got a slow connection so I can't look at it right now. Evidently, one of the goals in the construction is to trap the sound to make the stadium louder.

just because there is green in the 2020 vision diagrams on the north and east sides of the stadium does not mean they are adding seats.
the field entrance is going to be redone, and they are currently doing phase one of the east side renovations, the main purpose being to move the vehicle services out to service road by the simon power plant
there are no plans for seating additions, because there is no demand for more seats
